Jean, I think I'll be able to get to it tomorrow night. Still can't find calipers. Little bit worried about heat on polish and those feathers inside. Well, don't heat it up, and you got nothing to worry about! Just do your best, Scott. If something should happen to it, it's not the end of the world... Tommy, it's a little bit bigger than that. At least, it was last I saw it !

OK folks! I got to work on the sphere tonight.
I found it 2.038"-2.100" in diameter. Because I have to go to at least the minimum size to get a sphere she was about 62 thousands of an inch (0.062") - by hand! woot!
I have put in about 45 minutes with 220 grit. Right now it is 2.010" in diameter and when I get to the final low spot I hopefully will be at 2.005". That is explained by the object being egg shaped and it was not symmetrical. I am 0.005" from spherical and will have it within 0.001" of perfect. Nothing like that perfect scientific sphere we saw in that other thread, but quite acceptable for pretty objects.
Photos tomorrow. I figure I'll need 15 or so minutes on 220, another 15 on 500 - 800 and 30 for a very slow cool polish.
More tomorrow.

RE: Inclusions - personally? AWESOME!! I love them! Some would say they give character, but this is better. The quality the inclusions give is more like personality! When you rotate the sphere in hand the way they move in the light is magic. 220 grit finish at the moment is frosty, cannot see the inclusions.

It's not polished yet. It now looks exactly like you sent it to me. I wonder if there are a cloud of tiny bubbles. I need to find my magnavisor to see better

Great work on that Jean. If I can find the plans online again, there's a way to temporarily convert your flat lap into a sphere machine which will make true spheres.

Now that would be something, Don! Might try it again. (But not the large 36" inch ones like we used to make in Costa Rica back in the day!)

It only takes a couple pipe fittings and some precision drilling and tapping.
