Very cool. Interesting that no one can figure out how observable metals stored under observable exacting conditions can change in mass. Brings into question some hypotheses that have been elevated to fact over the years.

My dad used to make cabs for rings and bola ties out of this material. It shines up to a super reflective surface. A friend who used to deal in Silicon ingots had some beads made of the material and they have a much brighter appearance than Hematite and they are somewhat lighter. It is a messy material to work with, just like Hematite or Malachite so I don't work with it. Bob

I saw a lapidary grade sphere of pure silicon locally a couple years ago. It was gorgeous! Plus the story about the materials is cool. I'll only make one or two so the mess is not an issue for me.
