I am new to this. I have a Raytech V5 and in the last stage of grinding (3rd stage). What I have noticed is that the Amethyst and Orange Moon Rock have many cracks that are appearing.
My question is:
1) Is this just natural flaws in "bad" rock and it is just becoming more apparant the further into the process I continue?
2) Am I doing something to create these cracks or "encourage" the flaws?
3) Is it a combination of both?
Thank you

Another bonehead question.... (does this mean I should change my handle to Dr. Bonehead???)...
I was in the understanding that the media (I have ceramic pellets) are to be used in the polish stage. Is this incorrect?

you can use the pellets durring all stages I use in rough to carry the grit around when I dont have enough smaller stones in the charge... stage #2 to add volume I lost in stage #1 stage#3 & stage#4 volume and to prevent bruising of stones ... hope this helps... HURK... ps... don't mix the pellets... keep stage#1 pellets for stage#1 #2 for #2 and so on...

I am pretty sure the cracks were there. This also happens to me. I just put them in another fresh start batch, or grind and re-polish. Seems to be the way it is with my stuff. The emerald rough I have been tumbling shows up some distinct cracks, and I have not been able to really eliminate without using "sand" in the mast. What I do is mix other stones from other tumbles. I use these untill they are nothing but dust. I also now do five polishes. The usual four, and I add Cerium Oxide-optical grade. I do stage four for sixteen days, and stage five for sixteen day. Yeah, I get cracks all the time and unless I grind or live with it, I polish untill they and most of the stone are gone.
