Well I started this cab over a year ago and set it aside because I kept running into trouble. I kept uncovering fractures and oddities in the stone. I decided to pick it back up tonight and get it done. Here is where I started it tonight. I cut the fractured end off and worked it for a while, but soon after I got past 280 I noticed a new crack in it. I initially thought it wasn't worth fixing the crack because I assumed it would go all the way through. Here it is polished, you can see the crack on the right I spent a minute looking at it and decided I'd push ahead and take it back to 120 and get the crack out. That was tough to do after seeing the shine. I took it back all the way to polish and then saw a small fleck in it, and spent a lot of time going back a couple steps to get rid of it, this went on for about 20 minutes until FINALLY, after a year, I can say this is done. Under fluorescent light And under incandescent

Sweet perseverance. I do not have that kind of patience. I would have tossed it and ended up with nothing. Great job. Jim

I've done the same thing. Sometimes you just get so pissed at a stone that you can't work it anymore but you can't give up on it. It was worth the effort, what a great pattern.

Sweetness. Bruneau is by far one of my favorite jaspers, both to cab and to display as specimens. It was a *very* difficult jasper to mine, and we are lucky to have it! I love those caramel and cream color swirls. Your piece is more of the coffee-cream, darker, variety, which, I believe is more rare than the more caramel colored one. My wife bought me a specimen from the Gem Shop that is *black* Bruneau, with the egg pattern. It was a very expensive gift, she tells me. Here is one of mine, but it certainly doesn't in any way diminish your piece! Yours is more uniquely patterned. Well done.

The incandescent light shows the real colors best, I think. The fluorescent one ruins them every time.
A lot of work but excellent result!

Beautiful cab. I haven't learned how to get that spectacular liquid shine yet. I am jealous!

Very nice job! Sometimes those great stones make you work hard for the end result. Love the pattern and the polish. Rick

I figured out your problem with that stone!!!!!
You started off with too big a cab... just got right for the small ones and you should be all set in the future!! LOL
But seriously, really nice work... as usual!!

Beautiful cab. I haven't learned how to get that spectacular liquid shine yet. I am jealous! Thanks for all the generous comments everyone! Roger what are you using to shape and then to polish? I use the diamond cabbing wheels on my Genie, up to 3000 mesh, but then to push it over the top I have a 5.5" suede disk that I load with an AO polish called "OMG2" - both from John at jsgems.

I take mine up 8 wheels from 60 to 14000. I have a 50k pad for the side, but I get mixed results - probably my lack of a good technique. I am going to take a look at the OMG2. Your shine is beautiful.
