Nice James! It would be fun to have that steady supply of coral. No doubt you have to work for it, but that's part of the fun!

Those small rivers are difficult to explore. Require special boat and wading in weird places Chuck. So they are desolate and untouched. It takes me to some of the prettiest and out backish territory in the SE US. I am in awe of what is see. And 100's of miles to collect from. Been on 5 day trips covering over 100 miles and never saw a soul. And the ones i do see have 'crazy' tatooed on their forehead.LOL. This is mile 12 on a 16 mile trip(and 16 back). I ran up on this fellow. Going up and coming back. He had more jail house tattoos than space to put them.

Like that river pic. A friend describes those kinds of people quite well: They have more tattoos than teeth.

We have a special place for those above the Mason Dixon Suuuuure, come on down. My partner is from Connect i cut. And i get along fine w/him if he wasn't so narrow minded and a know it all. It takes a little coordination. I live 250-400 miles from the coral but spend 2-3 months at camp in Florida late summer/fall. It is a camp....No hot water.... But it is a great place to meet me at and is a cool place of spectacular natural beauty on big water. But really the most practical and easiest access is the coral at Valdosta Georgia. It is 3.5 hours from home in Atlanta. Timing for low water and cold is an issue. July-Nov is often low. But the water has stayed high for 3 years straight. So it is tricky. Best thing to do is wait till the water is low and let me contact you. But i would love to have you. Oh, and you have to be comfortable in my one man lake kayak. It is stable and wide and weighs 37 pounds. Easy for me to bring.

Pretty, pretty stuff --- colors and patterns. You are lucky! I wonder why us southern folks are not so active rock hunters Pat. There is plenty of nice stuff around Georgia. I would love to take a bunch of western rock hounds to where i go to see their reactions. Seems like i have so much to myself. A shame. Some of us 'Southern Folks' are transplanted northerners, who are soooooooo used to tripping over 500 stones a day are so taken with the lack of stone in the south that we don't notice the little bits there are here & there!!! Now Me, I like stones and even though it took me some 40 yrs to get back into it, I do try to make trips to places like Georgia, Alabama, N.C. to collect but only once or twice a yr is what I can afford. Oklahoma is my next destination to meet a fellow rockhound and help my sister on her 300+ acre ranch with clearing wood (and looking for interesting rocks), herding cattle (while looking for interesting rocks), and any other chores I can help with as her husband travels with work a lot doing Gov't contractor work. Oh, and if I have any free time I might go looking for any interesting rocks that might be lying around her property or the adjacent woods. She's also having some issues with the coyote population out there so I might do some pest control too!

I see lots of bad puns flying around here... Careful I might add to the horrible punnage... James - Awesome coral. I have a laundry list of favorite stones and Coral is on that list. I love it when I can see the polyps in it. You have some beautiful pieces there.

Great corals and neat country. Just don't do the humidity thing well. You folks warm up yet down there? Balmy mid 40s in No. Wyoming today.

Finally warmed up, in comes 3 inches of rain, lightning all night long and almost 70F. Never can tell.
The humidity has taken a few desert dwellers by surprise. They stopped talking about the dry high heat out there when even a low 90F/90% humidity day hit. A lot of folks from LA and Pheonix. I just wait for summer to come along and humble them.LOL. One summer about 12 years ago it was constantly above 100F and real high humidity. That was treacherous.
Glad you got a warm blast. Bet that felt good.

Ha, 50's here today. Never know what it's going to do next. I grew up in the Northeast, so I know about hot and humid-stacking bales of hay under a slate roof when it's 95 F and 90%. I'll stay out here in the dry part of the country.

You can run but never hide. Once the humidity has baked your brain you will never be the same. ha
