Well I started putting together bits and pieces to set up a little business to get some money moving (something that has so far eluded me in the lapidary and jewelry world) For now I just have a pittance for sale, I've put a Facebook page and website together in one fast night and now need some sleep. The product list will grow, and the web site quality will definitely improve but Here They Are! New Facebook page: facebook.com/bigsgemNew Web Site: www.bigskygem.comUnfortunately, in spite of searching Google and the domain registries for "Big Sky Gem" and coming up clean, as I registered my Facebook page there is another page of the same name, with a link to an Etsy Store - also of the same name. I'll differentiate myself pretty quickly with lapidary items but that was a little disheartening after having purchased the domain name a few weeks ago.

Looks like you are off to a good start. With your skills John, you should have as good a chance as everyone else. Good luck with that. Jim

Good luck John. Those earrings are great items at those prices. I have not tried selling off our facebook. I figured people (strangers) may not want to send money through there since its not really a "store front" like etsy so I have people reserve the item via facebook then I put in my etsy custom orders for them. It costs me a little more that way though.

congrats John! Love a new venture. Entrepreneurs like you probing the dark crevasses of the economy for opportunity will be the way the economy turns. Tens of thousands of little guys making 1-100 jobs each equals millions of jobs.
Good Luck!
RE: the domain name?
Sell it to the original guy. Make a few bucks and start over with your own unique company name. It's early still.

@shotgunner given that I have more followers in less than a week than that guy's had since May, and his relative lack of content I think I'll just keep what I've got. I'm guessing he wouldn't pony up much for the domain.
I managed to sell a domain a few years ago to a semi - funded startup (had it for a site I was using that wasn't really going anywhere.) Got a couple paychecks from that but that's the only domain I've sold that was worth anything.

I figured the other guy might give a few hundred bux and then you will have been paid for your efforts. But if you have more traction already, then my plan makes no sense.
No matter. Congrats!
