Hate to change the subject. Two coats of epoxy paint after being pressure washed. Bright color for not so bright mind. Next job is to paint the wall w/clear sealer to reduce sand particles from shedding off.

No caves around here --- sorta. Since the kids grew up, we have four extra rooms. I have a den, husband has a den. I have a room just for jewelry making (not smithing). Outside there is a largish shed for all the smithie work. I host smithie workshops every Friday afternoon as well as two evenings a month.
Husband doesn't like doing carpentry etc. He likes to read, work puzzles, do yardwork, and go for walks. He's very helpful everywhere. We do all the yard upkeep. No grass. All trees, fruit trees, and flowering plants. We do all the housework except carpets. We are not overweight.
Everybody who wants a cave should have one --- carve one out of someplace. Good for the soul.
We live at the end of a city cul de sac, so have a lot of room comparatively. It works. We are happy campers.

You always give me great ideas. I figured you got everything tuned up just right. A shop serves as a great sanctuary for about anybody. And you teach. I may show up one day. Especially when the freeze makes the avocados fall . PS I see your mention of smithing being done in outside shed. Is that because of smoke and touch fuel dangers?

jamesp. LOL not so sure I have it all figured out. I like figuring out how to make things work I do the smithing in the shed for safety reasons. Don't ever want to burn the house down. That's also where I work on cabbing and carving. Sort of my cave. I just have to figure out a way to keep my feet warm in the shed. I also like to vary my work: inside, outside, standing/walking around, sitting. Glad you ate posting your WIP. Fun to watch the process.

You probably have a wide spectrum of things to tinker with. Some people get bored doing one thing. Mixing it up has to be better. And healthier. I waited till my wife took over the (cold) studio so i cold move to the smaller(warm) basement. She needs the space anyway. And the basement is a bit rough. You mentioned keeping your feet warm. It sounds like it gets chilly. Cabbing and smithing in the cold is not comfortable like doing yard work. And the inside work is often desirable when it is cold outside. The fire hazard makes perfect sense.

We wouldn't have to go off on a tangent discussing things other then the heart of your post if you'd pick up the tempo building your shop! We get bored waiting for progress so we're kinda like the TV commercials waiting for the program to start again! You're getting like Adrian building his home,,,I get the pop corn and root beer all set,,,sit down here,,,,tune into the RTH Reality Show and ,,,,nothin' but "commercials"! LOL Get your ducks in a row fella or the "ratings" will drop so low ,,,,next seasons show will get cancelled! LOL connrock

There is a problem Houston ! Tom, it is 12F out side. And i got to start rounding stuff up.
I need to weld leg extensions to some junk to make tables and that has to be done outside.
Dismantle and move stuff. It's coooooold out there. And windy. I am a candy when it comes to below 30F.
Now discussing those fetishes above are way more interesting than any shop talk. LOL.
I am getting in to my long johns to see how it goes. And stop my whining.

Went to the junk yard to see what was available for tables. Nada. Did pick up a few SiC grinding wheels. And some axels and hardware to make a go of it. Those 500 watt shop lights do 2 things. Warm you up and provide lots of light. Shine them down from above and the radiation serves well to keep the bench warm. Total bill was a $100

Nice haul!
I know what you mean about the cold. I'm allergic to it myself. I need to go to the shed for some bungee cords and can't force myself to do it. It is COLD out there!
