nice - that black is very cool. You could also cut 1" (or so) wide pieces and drill perpendicular to the stalk and make large beads, different colors, big chunky beads are in.

I work in construction.
I don't see jewelry. I see drawer and door pulls for "eco friendly" kitchens. Bigger stuff for interior doors. Would go great in any asian motif space. Yeah, I am a guy.

I like it! I actually like your stuff better, James. That black bamboo is very pretty. I do see hardware, too, though.

He has some wild designs. I think he should tone down . And his wife says it's not going to happen. Thanks Tela

Here are the roots of bamboo. The roots are solid. Very durable. Especially when growing out into the air and healing off. Great snaky work. I think bamboo means earth quake resistant. Since it weaves the ground together.

I know they sell bamboo beads John. They may be dried. The black does not change it's natural color. Black is often a desirable color. I need to see if black bamboo beads are available. I looked and found died to black. But Fred came a long way to pick thru these of mine. And he had been using only black for many years. I remember him saying that he has to field collect John. I expect to see him here for another trade while he is at the Decatur summer festival. Hoping anyway.

Another touch in design! Not really my cup of tea but if we all thought and did the same,,,,,,,, Bamboo,,,the town just south of us has just passed an ordinance prohibiting the growth of bamboo! A couple of people planted it and didn't keep it from spreading onto the neighbors property. It's been an ongoing thing for quite a few years between these people so I guess the town finally got tired of it and passed the ordinance? Hope our town doesn't pass one for dandelions cuz I have tons of them in summer! LOL connrock

nice stuff, how did you solder so close to the wood without burning it? Is that real low temp solder (lead/tin) and a soldering iron? Or am I missing something? Ok I am likely missing something LOL

Most sales were to landscapers making a privacy barrier for their angry clients. In urban Atlanta. Plant encroachment is not a concern of the law here. So most of that bamboo was sold as a retaliation measure. And i used to get calls from their clients and neighbors. Many of them were being harassed by neighbors because of their sexual preference. So they planted the bamboo or had it done. Needless to say, i got some interesting calls.

Ok I am likely missing something LOL I am glad you asked that Tom. And you have good insight for asking. I used Harris 96% Tin 4% Silver solder called Sta Brite. It is an alternative industrial solder for low temp/high strength copper, stainless, and brass pipe. I have strength tested it and it is strong. Comes in a little thin wire roll and an eye dropper bottle of flux for $12 - $15. I use it on mix metal jewelry a lot. I do not like the silver color though. And i heat it with simply a souped up soldering iron. A fat pistol iron and i filed the tip to get a little more heat. It melts at either 395 or 430, i can't remember. But flux the solder iron tip and the solder and it melts away. Pre heat work w iron.

James that's too funny and exactly why the people planted the bamboo here! I don't think the people that put it in for privacy knew that it would spread the way it did and when it did,,,I don't think they cared either! LOL
Harris Sta-Brite Solder,,,, I never tried it with a soldering iron!LOL I always used a torch,,,,dummy! I guess the obvious isn't always obvious? LOL I'm finding this more and more as I get older too! Some mornings my brain gets out of bed with me and some mornings it sleeps in a bit longer! LOL connrock

LOL connrock The bamboo is a fun chapter in my life Tom. Being lazy in sorts, i planted it to cover areas that i would have to mow/bush hog etc. After many years i have giant maze w/tunnels thru the bamboo. But it too requires maintenance. We used to deliver it to those urban areas on Sunday when there was no traffic. A trailer behind the truck with the pots sitting upright up 20+ feet in the air. A traveling bamboo grove. Taking many low lying city phone lines out. Don't tell.(the trailer would only hold 5 pots laying down, but 15 pots standing). The torch and Sta Brite are user friendly. But it will do with a solder gun. It comes w/a little bottle of liquid flux. The most important/tedious task was to paint the flux on with a tiny detail paint brush so the solder would run to only the painted flux. A powerful solder gun is a big help.

"A traveling bamboo grove"! Funny! My first recollection of bamboo was when I was very young. My dad took me by the hand and we walked all the way to a local furniture store,,,we didn't have a car when I was a kid,,,didn't have nothin! LOL My dad went back and forth with the store owner and finally talked him out of a long piece of small bamboo that was used to roll new rugs up.It was my very first fishing poll! Keeping solder from going where you don't want it,,,,,, I don't know if it works on the type of soldering done with Sta-Brite solder but when silver soldering sterling silver BiC White-Out can be used to "mask" areas that you don't want the solder to "leach" into. Might help?? connrock
