Jean ( rockpickerforever ) sent me a goody box last week, and there were 2 stones labeled as "possible chapenite" Well I just finished slabbing up one of them. It seems to be the right color, it is nice and hard and solid, but it also has some pretty red, almost pigeon blood, but not translucent at all other than some quartzy pockets in a couple of the slabs. It's pretty, whatever it is (thanks again Jean!): I've started wearing a glove that I keep by my saw when I remove the slab and index over the carrier, it keeps me from having to wash my hands every time I run out to the garage. As has been pointed out in the past my hands are always dry (Colorado is very dry) and washing them 20 more times a day than is needed does not help. I can reuse the glove for several days if I'm careful and they are cheap at Harbor Freight. I keep one hand out of the oil and use it to shoot the photos. This lets me run in and work at my desk, then run out and move the cross feed without stopping or washing hands.

I use med. gloves just about every time I go in the slab saw. It is an art to taking them off and keeping them right side out.

Interesting material, but not chapenite.
