VERY nice John. What did they call it, just plain, simple Sarape?

Some nice lookin' serape, John. Glad you are back to cutting again. Seven months is nothing, I've got stuff that's been cooling its heels for years!
That "floor dry" sounds like something I need to try. Right now, I'm just using Dawn. I hate getting the oil off after a saw fest.

Yeah I bought a 18"x24" plastic bin from the hardware store, along with 25# of floor dry and I filled it about half full. It was cheap and the added bonus is I "wash" my hands using the floor dry and it takes the oil off my hands (or gloves if I am using them) lickety split!
I just toss the slabs in there (being careful not to touch the floor dry until I'm done in the saw, I don't want floor dry back in the saw) then once I close the saw and start it I cover the slab with floor dry and scrub the last piece I had in there with the floor dry as well and the oil comes right off.
I really like it, a lot more than washing, and the slabs come out dry and ready to rinse in water.

Great looking slabs, reminds me of an abstract painting a little.

Very nice material that I haven't seen before.
As rockpickerforever suggested, 7 months is pretty fresh. I have material that was collected/gifted/traded/bought years ago that hasn't been touched yet. A rock pile is a little like a retirement savings plan. Accumulate what you can while you can because there will come a day when you won't get any more and have to survive on what you have accumulated over all those years.
Darryl.

we have a coop here that has an Ace hardware in it and they sell it, but it is more of a farm and ranch store. I'd be willing to bet auto parts stores carry it or know who does.

thanks I found it on-line but it cost as much to ship as the actual price. I was thinking of buying some for the gemclub workshop. They act like cat litter is worth gold or something. The cat litter there is so saturated with oil seems like you can squeeze the stuff and oil runs out lol. I haven't been in awhile and was planning on just replacing what they have, but this might work better.

Looks like the cracks were infiltrated by iron salts or some compound. Beautiful result.

I think some varieties are the same as floor dry but I don't have cats to know for sure.
