hmm mr mohs, thought galena was lead ore? would that be sort of rigid when melted, or wouldn't it be more flexible like lead? I suppose it would depend on what other metals might be found with it. (feeling so ignorant!)

gemfeller, that is the first thing I thought of! Sort of like mile markers on the highway! Isn't there a famous rune stone finding somewhere on the east coast too? It is going to be fascinating to hear more about this thing. Are you thinking of the Newport (R.I.) tower? Here's a link about it claiming to have solved the mystery.

I'm not sure how strongly I buy into such ideas -- I'm an "evidence guy." But there are certainly many mysterious places in the Americas for which definitive answers are needed. My own research has convinced me Columbus was a Johnny-come-lately and the country was visited by people of many origins much earlier. I find looking into those matters very enjoyable but tangible evidence is elusive.

I've read about it, (thanks for the link) but am in the undecided camp. you are right, documentation is hard to come by, speculation is rampant. ditto poor ole Columbus. I lean the same way.

Templars construction Ha ! The Templars certainly got around -- at least in some people's minds. The guy on "American Unearthed" seems to think nearly every unexplained site in North America has a Templar involvement. While speculation's fun, I repeat: I'm an evidence guy. I haven't seen any I'd put money on.

The Templars have something to do w/everything! - Umberto Eco Ha Not an exact quote–but very close…mostly The thread will get hi-jacked if we enter this terra incognito But I have a way into, “Foucault’s Pendulum,” A very challenging and fascinating book Once you know the key- to the read- It really is one of the most funny and informative books not for the summer beach read though

Thanks for the tip. "Foucalt" received such mixed reviews when it was published I didn't bother with it. Your endorsement rekindles my interest and I'll put it on my Kindle.
