Hey guys calm down. The stuff is soft and hsrd. One chunk will be cab quality and on other will be soft and difficult. That being said the ryolite is awesome when it a good un!

Yes, I graduated from the University of Michigan. Most of my clothes are those colors. It was a Michigan - Michigan State joke. I didn't expect California folks to get it. Actually UC Davis is maize and blue too!

Mark I think the trick is getting it from under the ground. Alva my rockhound buddy that lives in Quartzsite warned me about that this year. I have some from last year too but have not tried it yet. I remember you slabbets some and it fractured bad. I also have some from this year that we dug up. This is true for s lot of places out there. The flat is laying all over the ground in plain sight so it's tempting to pick it up but it's actually everyone's leaverite! LOL. Burro Creek is bad for that where the Pastelite area and also the seam agate area. You have to look for a tip sticking up and dig it out. Also unless your very sure it's good stuff you better chip it with your hammer to be better sure about keeping it. There is a art to chipping a rock. You don't whale away at it like John Henry! Just pick a ledge or corner and peck it and s small chip will pop off.
