Started to get a little lazy and thought of trying something different I havent done before. Made my first coin ring today. Its made from a Canadian loonie, 2 dollar coin. One big error I noticed but to late to stop once I started. I wanted the engraved maple leafs and the 2 dollar coin word on the outside of the ring instead of the inside. Also I would like to press the edges inward for a circular or rounded look then flat. Next one I'll correct and post it again. Showed it to a couple buddies and have a request for a few more. 2$ for 30$ not a bad deal.

Wow, I like how you do that! I remember we used to take silver US quarters (1964 and earlier, they were 90% silver) and tap them on the edge with a spoon until they turned into rings. You had to do it just right, in order to keep them straight (I was never good at it, lol).
Found this how-to online snapguide.com/guides/make-a-ring-out-of-a-quarter/
Caveat - just don't get caught defacing currency. It is technically illegal, yet many people do it.

I'm cringing as I read this... It's cool, but I collect Canadian coins, so everyone you make is one less I can try to get!!
But as I said, they're cool looking rings!!

So are you going to tell us your method or just leave us wondering? I'm headed to Google now to do some research.

Ok, rock picker's link shows a method. Is this the same method you used, Spiritstone?

Thank you! Sounds like the same method.

Rob, his method looks different. Looks like once he removes the center, he somehow turns the entire coin to the vertical, stretching the inner edge. Damned if I know how he does it!?? Maybe some metal spinning process? But that would destroy the coin's design. Hmmm, maybe it's magic?

So are you going to tell us your method or just leave us wondering? I'm headed to Google now to do some research. For sure....A mandrel, torch, acrylic hammer and a lot of banging, then wola! Plus a dapping block a socket to press it in for that outside round shape. Almost forgot a vice. Plus as Rockpickerforever mentioned, i pop out the center and they make a very nice larger size for mens fingers. I saw some guy on youtube do it this way.

When we were kids , we used to drill holes in Quarters and get some fishing line and very slowly drop them in video games to rack up credits . One Quarter would last us all day. Sometimes we would lose them with the fishing line in the machine. It was not long before the operator of the store caught on. He gave us its against the law to deface Canadian money.

I think a lot of us used to do that same thing. With todays high tech money-bills thats are made of rip free plastic. The kids of this age have come up with even a more sneaky way, "because we catch them" the vending machines take bills and debit cards, they use a paper hole punch and punch a hole in the bill and tie spider line-fishing line then buy a product insert it and pull it back out. lol These rings seem to be hot. Showed it at work and sold it right off my finger. Cool! Without the finger included.
