I woke at 2am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to share an idea for broaches, rings, etc. Make a wire oval just larger than your cab, then a slightly smaller one, attache them at the corners, Then solder on opened jump rings on the bottom oval to bend over and hold the cab in place. Add bale or ring shank, Then inset the stone from the back instead of the top as I have always done.

A more robust design would be to attach the jump rings on the side wires and solder to the base wire.

is the plan to bend the jump rings up to hold the cabachon in? Bail for pendant, shank for a ring?

good idea Dave. Cuts way down on materials too. And it focuses on the stone ! I've always inserted the stones from the top and had to figure some way to bend over prongs that would hold and not be too ugly and hide so much of a nice cab. I have a couple of opals I cut 40 years ago that the sides and bottom are as magnificent as the top I want displayed in rings. This allows most of them to be seen.

You find great topics to post on and provide great material to go with the subject. Keep up the great work!.....................MrP

1dave could you post a photo of a cab set this way? Thanks. I would love to, but . . . That is why I asked Don to do it. It is a new idea to me that came in the night. I'm learning to use Clip Studio - Holding the mouse with both hands I was finally able to make the drawings above. A correction function to smooth hand-drawn lines “Stroke-in” and “stroke-out” to easily strengthen or weaken the beginning or end of a line. Free resolution for beautiful lines in vector format PROEX Scaling up / down never changes the beauty of lines and you can freely change the line even after you draw it.

I HATE what the progressives are doing to our country.

Pat, It would be like making this a tad small, and bending the loops underneath.
