The package clearly states flat rate so the Post Office should be honoring that since the contents fit. Secondly, if there was a problem the Post Office should have pointed it out to the sender to begin with so he could repackage it or pay the extra. Therefore, the Post Office who sent it thought there was no problem with the package and any errors are on them. So just don't pay the extra. I doubt if they are going to take you to Court for the amount and if they do then they will have a lot of explaining to do.

Captbob, I am fighting this out with the post office. I have to wait another couple days for the post master to get back with me. When I filed the complaint with the national service center they instructed the local post master to delete the extra charges and to give me a call since the local F.A. wouldn't let me speak to the post master when I was down there.

we sent a priority flat rate envelope with some legal documents in it on the 12th of December to the United Kingdom. paid $25.25 for the tracking number. Tracking stopped when it departed Heathrow on the 18th...........now in limbo (in transit). Clearly the USPS did it's bit, now searching for a recourse for the Royal Mail. Any suggestions?
KD
update: got email today, it was delivered...yay! still, pretty slow for Priority Mail. Must have taken a detour.

Once a package gets to the other country there isn't much the USPS can do.

LOL,The USPS uses their own rules with each post office! I was sent a small flat item from Cali.-to Oregon, but it was in a cut up flat rate box, made into a flat package, because the priority markings were on the out side of the package, they charged me the $12,95 shipping price, before I could get the package.. It made it through the post office when sent (No problem),but on my end they belly ached about it.....(Rolling eyes)... Sometimes its worth the argument, sometimes its worth it,to just walk away.... I payed it,learned a lesson and walked away....LOL

They would have probably given in.
