Nice dog bowl. A fella needs a large wood pile to feed that beast. We put them out side a couple of days ago in the shade. Wife surrounded farm fire pit with little temp pen. Those rascals slept under the fire pit all day. They ended up as soot monsters. Full of fine ash, pat them and they would throw dust like a puffer mushroom. This is not there normal color

Whipped up a quicky bending rig. Me not a tool and die guy. But this thing bends rings in 15 seconds without much strain. Will make several sizes. Big help. Old bender was 3 wheel roller type and very finicky. Searched Youtube for a better way, no could find. Open gap needed, so that simplified the deal. Bends 1.5-2-2.5 and 3 inch hot roll strip 3/16" thick. Cheater bar on 2.5 and 3 inch stuff.

Had a bad day. Separated and stacked yesterday 101F and humidity. Slept 18 hours. 15,000 pounds. Looks like enough space for 60-70,000 pounds. My young buck got a job in a gun store. Before kaos

Sounds like you need to hire another young buck! My old employee showed back up to do the plants. That is a time eater and he is a big help, knows his way around. Both of those boys need to focus on their careers. I try not to take too much out of them.

Yeah, it's hot weather....no doubt. Be careful out there, James, don't over do it. Downtown LA is warming up, too.

18 hours of sleep? You must have let yourself get dehydrated jamesp. I can remember back in the days when I would carry that much steel on my back, uphill both ways, just for practice. Watch your back James. The weakest part of the human body is the back, or mind in my case, and you do not want to break it down then have to live with the problem for the rest of your life. My motto was always "I got this, no problem" and it cost me dearly. My best advice is be careful get help no matter what when it is needed. Okay, I am done bitching at you son. Jim

Jim, what you said is oh, so true. Young folks take note...you are not Superman!!!! I came home yesterday from work feeling the most beat-up that I have in a long time. Rough day...both regarding work and the heat...
James, how you feeling this morning? Yeah, Lower Alabama....I could cut a slab of whatever this is that suffocates yankees and send it to you...some people call it humidity, I dunno....

Jim Try to use proper lifting w/legs. Yea, old you school guys are bad about picking up heavy stuff. They were brought up before 50 pound OSHA rules. 1st shift was old farts and they were always saving a minute picking up 200-300 pound steel poles one man on each end instead of getting crane. Younger 2nd and 3rd shift guys would not get caught dead lifting such. Old bulls, can't tell them scnitt. Very productive though. Head east something in their hands, head back west w/something else in their hands, total efficiency. Saving steps, thinking ahead. I did have back surgery 18-20 years ago. Tell the old lady I may break any day. But such work is my love, not ready to lay down yet. My neighbor and dearest friend died of cancer recently at 78. That guy could work you into the dirt at anything. After all this inventory gets centralized and logistics laid out lifting systems WILL be implemented. Hell Jim, welding cables and power cords cause more muscle tightening back pains from stress than moving heavy stuff around. Always tangling and aggravating. Stress can really mess up your back.

Yeah, Lower Alabama....I could cut a slab of whatever this is that suffocates yankees and send it to you...some people call it humidity, I dunno.... Ed My last worker a body builder. To be honest, I am glad he found a new career job. I would cringe watching him lift 200 pound bowls up on the work table by himself. I built lift forks so me and him could set them on the table together but he insisted on getting his exercise. And very independent fellow. Human body is amazing, but back lifts like that are nothing but trouble in the future. me fine Ed. Avoided dead lifts. Once in a while I cheat and pick up the big one-end up 7-10 days on laying down with nerve pinch has a way of persuasion. The day of I am fine, but know that I hurt my back. I tell my wife that I will be laid out the next day and prepare for some rough days. I remember working my way thru college moving furniture. First week they put me with Cecil, 160 pounds soaking wet, quiet black fellow. Tall slender guy. Me and him were messing around and he grabbed my belt and lifted me over his head with his arms extended out. Mostly a ghetto dude, just worked hard. Scary strong. Ha, be careful whom you mess with.

Nice orderly job of stacking those tank ends, James. If the price of steel goes up if/when cheap Chinese stuff is not brought in as much you will be sitting pretty.

That guy you found on Craig's List is giving away fire pits captbob. Busting the market with super cheap pricing. I have been smoking him on my main outlet of Etsy. He sold some to a fireplace store near me for 1/4 price. They shared his sales papers with me yesterday. He is making a stand in my hood. He copies my listings on Craig's list and Etsy in sorts. My Etsy sales since Nov. 2015 when he started are about double his sale in units. However, my average pit sold for $600, his for $200. So I am killing him in overall income. But it makes him aggressive. He sells legs, I sell both legs and pedestal bases. Pedestal design way outselling leg design. Plus I have snuffer tops which sell with half the pits. And I do large custom order pits. So is business.

China and US steel headed up, China actually rising faster than US. Commodity aspect looking good. When the scrap rate gets high enough the manufacturer has in the past 10 years stopped selling their defective units due to hassle and simply sent them for remelt. That really depletes the availability. These 2 new competitors do not know this as they have only been in business 2 years and the other 8 months. Stock piling a huge benefit in this situation.

I go against Pete in a pickup and Chuck in a truck all day long. At cut rate prices, they won't be in business long.
4-5 small biz out of biz within first 5 years. In this case when the profits don't make it interesting he will lose his excitement and move along.

Intheswamp the only mention of those three words is in your post. Maybe get creative so Google doesn't index or delete entirely. If you do, do will I.

I should think he will burn out. I am making good money yet pretty much have a challenge on my hands. He is copying the other 2 year guy verbatim. Art pits. Me and the 2 year guy have different designs. I discuss the 2 year guy openly with my customers , suggesting him if they want a more art type pit. Even referring him.
