What timing! was going to mount an old fluorescent fixture above my jewelry bench this weekend & found these LED replacement bulbs - LEDs$11 each for 5000k with free shipping. Lynn Looks like you have to do some rewiring of your old fixtures to use those.

Last month I seen 4 foot led light fixtures at SamsClub and the price looked good so I bought a couple just to test them out. After replacing two fluorescent fixtures with those I went back the next day and bought 14 more. Unbelievable difference in brightness. So now the whole garage and basement is all LED. I still clamp on swing arm task lighting at my cabbing station because I like direct light on my wheels. The LED shop lights are very white light. Not really good for a living area. I had to leave a few fluorescent fixtures in the finished basement area that the kids use as a TV room because the LED was too harsh. www.samsclub.com/sams/4ft-led-shoplight-shoplight-led/prod16460030.ipChuck 5000k > shop areas 2700K > living area For me (and probably everybody else), the preference comes from being accustomed to incandescent light bulbs, the glow of candles/lanterns, etc.,. The gold/yellow cast of incandescent light bulbs have always seemed "warm" to me, whereas the "blue" light of daylight florescent bulbs seemed "cold". This is completely opposite of the Kelvin scale of things, though. So, when you're shopping for LED or florescent bulbs be aware of the "temperature rating" of the bulb you buy...buying for specific areas of your house. Also, most of the time the lower-priced ones also have a lower lumen rating. Does the lower lumen rating matter?...depends on what you're doing with them...I put two of the screw in LED bulbs in a back hall in the house and they work great, better than the old twisted CFL. 2700k florescent 4' tubes T8 @ Home Depot These are a bit pricey, though...

Thanks so much for all of your responses! I'm going to try and pick up a couple different ones (LEDs seems to be best!) for the different areas. It probably won't be too long before they're ready to go up, my husband is quite speedy! I'll try to post some pics soon.

Lynn Looks like you have to do some rewiring of your old fixtures to use those. Mounting the fixture to the ceiling required me to take it almost completely apart. Now I know it inside out. Rewiring it will be easy. Lynn
