Had a big hole dug. Made a larger outer ring and a smaller inner ring out of 42 inch tall grain silo panels. Poured the 16 inch space with full concrete truck.(9 yards) Then poured a 10 inch thick concrete floor.(9 yards) Piped 40 gallon per minute free flowing artesian well over to feed it. Has a 6 inch bottom drain. 3000 gallons total. Takes about 2 hours to fill, 10 minutes to drain. Upon arrival, had to clean it out and bleach concrete. Often has a small gator and a Moccasin or two in it. After clean out and bleaching 72F Feed from well. Valved to fill bath tub. Tub used for bathing, cooling palm tree hearts, caught fish, beer cooler, washing clothes and collected plants etc Idiot stick cooling off Hell storm arrives right when I arrived. Unloaded with lightning popping close by. Lightning constantly strikes within 200 feet, crazy. The other artesian well in the pond. Opened it up to blow the rust out. roars at 100 gallons per minute. Lots of sharks teeth and whale bone comes up from 100-200 feet down when drilling. View from front porch

Pretty nice digs, looks like that place gets overgrown near instantly when you're gone. Very few are fortunate enough to have that kind of running water.

You need a couple of children running around in a circle in there to get a good funnel action going!

You guys would laugh at the bug/critter removal method. It entails overfilling the pool onto ground for a day or two till the water starts to creep up to top of slab level. Flooding the entire yard. bugs snakes mice termites ants make a run for it. Return is difficult since ground cover is mowed. The cabin floats on deep sand on 9 inch steel poles. slab level 6 inches above sand level. Flooding effective. quartz, there are 6-8-10-12 inch wells in the hood there. Flows are 600-1000-1600-2500 gallons per minute respectively. Static pressure 12 psi @ 6 feet above lake level. Mine is only 4 inch @100 gpm, laws changed to 4 inch as maximum unless agricultural which I am and can still get a permit for such. Wade fish in the lake a lot. By wading you can find the cold spots(under sand springs). Lake has massive springs too, millions of gallons per day. One of the springs is high salt water(Salt Springs @ 30 million gallons per day), that section of the lake full of ocean critters tarpon, red fish flounder etc rockymom, have had a whole bunch of nieces and nephews over. I place bets that they can not jump in fast enough to splash out 12 inches of water depth. what a fiasco. The place is bulletproof and the flying water can not hurt anything. orrum, got two lots. Trying to sell the lake front w/$4500 taxes/year. will keep the 3 acres with cabin and lake access, taxes only $600/year. Got to start reducing costs, were getting older dude. Been in about every wetland in the SE US. This area is about as primitive and jurassic as it gets. Even have bull sharks and porpoise visit coming up the St John's from out let at Jacksonville 125 miles away. Mankind is several notches down the food chain here. Turtle, catfish, alligator, blue crabs all commercially fished in this lake. Have seen 150+ pound snapping turtles. 13'+ alligators. Soft shells very large. In one hour I watched from the front porch an owl catch a squirrel, a weird wasp catch a katydid, anole catch a grasshopper, cardinal snatch several dragonflies, and a kite dive bomb a song bird. About 3 times a year you are kept awake at night by what sounds like 100's of B-52 bombers-attack of the blind mosquitos. Buzzing loudly in clouds, a mass visit lasting a week. something is always eating something. Birds are migratory, oceanic, fresh water, birds of prey, tropicals. Probably the most diverse collection of birds imaginable. An owl had set up a nest in the attic with babies. she was after me if I walked to one side of the building. Crazy owl

Can peck a hole thru plate steel(not really) but great wood destroyers. Cypress tree was out in the lake. He was fussing at me from shore. Finally he flew out to the cypress tree to his hole. He did not like me next to his home.

(Special Forces)... Hell James,I bet you could show them a thing or two too!!!!! LOL Me and brother used to wade couple hundred feet out in lake a travel a couple of miles in the dark. Just for thrills. Flashlight showing 6-8 sets of red eyes entire trip. stupid is as stupid does. That kid better not steal from me again or I'll be trolling with him. if you like to wrestle the big gators wade fish in August when they are in rut. most likely time for attack. You are seen as competition. August 4 yeas ago I had a big one approach me closely and slap his tail on the water, then dive. 300 feet out in lake waste deep. Thought i was dead meat. Not a good way to go. Scareded as scareded can ever be. He cruised about 50 feet from me before showing out. 11-12 inches between eyes, a tan, humongo. Whole incident about 20 minutes. He had no fear of humans. They hunted him, he had caused other threats. Easy catch if you have more than a fishing pole in 4 feet of water. Once in a while you get a nut case gator. He was one of two encountered. The docks south have owners that feed them. Not good.

Dropped a section off the neighbors elm that was at least 24 inchs in diameter and guessing 20 feet or so off the trunk, and across my driveway.

Problem now the trees seem to have dutch elm disease and many of them had to be cut down due to rotting. makes it easier for the pecker to bring them down.

@spritstone I think our elms are done in except the winged elms. pileated peckers sound like chimpanzees, just louder

Same leaf pattern with the only difference i see is the winged bark on the trunk. Sorta looks the same as birch peeling. I take it the winged are the heartier of the elm species?
