I have learned a ton from this website. I am new as well and am trying to find a dealer I can buy two bowls for my Rayteck V5 so that I can pollish my first load.
I see most all of the postings mention patience and the use of a tumbler. I do know that the timing for a tumbler is 3 to 4 times longer then it is for a vibrating machine.
I chose the vibrating machine after researching because of the timing.
For quality, is a tumbler better than a vibrating machine? How many out there use the vibrating machines?
Always curious, Jon

I have a vibrating tumbler. I love the time factor issue. I pre-polish in #600 grit for 3 days or so. Then after I wash them, I put in with titanium dioxide for 3-5 days and my rocks come out so polished and shiny. The downfall to the vibrating machine is that it does not change the shape of the rock at all. What you put in is what you get out, except shiny. I have mostly smooth beach rocks or from lakes and rivers, quite uniform in shape. I wish I could be more help in comparing the 2 different types of machines. I know some of the members to this board do have both and with time, the info will flow forth. The vibrating tumbler is hypnotizing when we watch the rocks tumble. My little girls and I get caught "watching the rocks" all the time. Enjoy and keep watching the messages here. These people are so helpful. Addicted To Rocks

I actually love the fact that these rocks have kept a natural shape. I figured it was just the type of rock I was vibrating.
You mentioned "beach rock". I have had a couple leads on what to hunt for her in Florida but none has mentioned beach rock. Is this something on the beach of a large lake or river or is this something I may find at the ocean?
I just figure my son would love to find the rocks and watch them being pollished.
Thanks
