Nie pics, jamesp. Katydids are okay, it's those three inch long grasshoppers I can't stand. Shudder... That's almost the same shade of green as Fred. Liking that last closeup shot, the googly eyes remind me of Hillary!

You are right. Sorry, Katy, for comparing you to the Hildebeast! That wasn't nice...

James jamesp, I don't think Bill orrum meant songs made by them, but perhaps he remembers hearing a song about katydid? Porter Wagoner - "Katy Did"
Also found the lyrics to a children's song, but can't find an audio or YouTube version.

Better than friggin' rats! I had some in my shed and they got in my camping gear. I had some long term food packets in a really nice backpack. The little bastards sought it out and destroyed my pack. Also destroyed my awesome "kitchen" tote and a few other things. One thing that was kinda funny.... they pulled out a brand new deck of playing cards and dragged it to a perch where they happily chewed many cards into tiny bits. I think they liked the feeling of the wax on their teeth. I have since put out poison and I think they are all gone.

If he were just 1/4th inch long, he would be cute.
Agree with Jean: 3" grasshoppers no good. I dropped out of an economics class because that pesty fly on my leg was really a grasshopper. Three inches!! I flew out of that class and never returned.

Can't believe those little greenies gave you such a whooping.

While searching I kept seeing videos of their plethora of natural sounds. Had a female Ridgeback that feasted on them when she was pregnant. Never figured that one out.

This is much more acceptable than the spiders over in another thread. I'm sure it won't eat that much.

Spiders and Tela's city rats- both same category. creepies PS Randy, first photo hand held stacked focus not 4 inches from subject so the deep depth of field. To really get a well focused photo I gotta do a tripod with such close macros to see if that Olympus can do stacking with fine focus. Because I worry that the stack causes image issues, or the lens fall short of the mark. Must tripod.

Thankfully they are not in the house!

So I'm watching the videos jamesp posted of the Katydid sounds and my wife walked in the room. Looked at the video, looked at me, looked at the video, me, shook head, walked from room muttering something unintelligible. I'll count that as a win!
