This weekend I went to the rock show in Sedona AZ. At one of the booths there was a man named Pat McMahan selling his new book. It's almost 500 pages of Agate pictures, most of which he collected himself. My mom and I talked to him for a long time as he showed us his book. He told us a couple of stories about his rock hounding trips. He is a very nice man. Just a few days earlier I had seen the book online but for $130 I wasn't sure about buying it, until I saw it. It's beautiful!! I bought it and he signed it for me. Would make a great Christmas present (start hinting if you want it....lol) It's available on Amazon and at his website agateswithinclusions.com if anyone is interested. He also wrote the cover story in the March 2016 issue of Rock and Gem. Just thought I'd share. Here are a couple of pics from the book.

Awesome photos! I have never regretted paying too much for a truly great book. Kicked myself a few times for passing one up....
Thanks for sharing, Andrea!

Let me know what you think when you get it. I haven't gotten an email from them, yet. But, they send priority, so it shouldn't take too long. I have the jasper book by Hans Gamma, PICTURE JASPERS from the Northwest and another that I can't remember the name of (out of print now). This will make a nice companion book.

For those who don't have the book, much of McMahon's collection is available online. I've been using it as a resource for 8 or 9 years. agateswithinclusions.com/

Got my book today. OH. MY. GOODNESS. Talk about pornography! What a beautiful book. It has lots more than agates, too. It also has agates from around the world. It is organized by locality. One bad thing... no index. But, that's not too a big a deal for me. I'm going to be spending a lot of time with this big gorgeous book.

It's much larger and more comprehensive that I thought it would be.

Meant to post this a while back. Here's Pat with my signed copy I bought back in January at the Flagg show. Like rockjunquie said the book is rockhound porn!

I haven't bought the book yet. However, Ive been rockhounding with Pat McMahan, as he is in the Sedona gem and mineral club and so am I, but we never found anything like what's in his book on our field trips. But then, he has a lot more time to rock hunt than I do.
He is a wealth of info and often a speaker at club meetings. And always is Santa at the Christmas party. His house is an agate museum, and his garage is as awesome as his book. Every size of slab saw imaginable. I made my first cab on his machines while taking a cabbing class at his house. He is a class A1 rockhound.

Awesome that he gave you cabbing lessons at his house.
