Was wondering what anyone thought of doing decorative oil lamps filled with tumbles for sale? What I have is 1830's replica whale oil lamps that I've been sitting on for 20 years and it's about time I got rid of them. Do you think $35 with a lb of tumbles is too much to ask? Lee #1

Great idea ! I'm thinking , depending on your market and the breed of rock , maybe you could ask a little more .

I'm going to cut the lapis with some quartz - 50/50 of each. If I get in the market I want next month, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks all for the feedback.

Even if you consider the tumbles plus lamps a sunk cost, it's hard for me to see that the booth cost + travel costs + hassle of transport/spending all day in a booth would be worth it for $35 a pop. I would test a higher price or, if I was really confident that $35 was the best I could do, I would probably not ever getting around to doing the sale at all.

No way, That price is way too cheap, people looking at those for $35 those will think a piece of dollar shop rubbish, put the price up and they will know they are getting a really good hand made replica.
Human nature is a strange beast, I have done the same at the market, put a small price on something and have it picked up and looked over and put down a dozen times, next week I tripled the price and it went while I was setting up and the person was over the moon about how great a bargain they had got.

Nice idea, maybe test auction one on Ebay, keep opening bid low (.99), no reserve and watch the action. I'm guessing it could hit $75 easy.

$45 or 2 for $80? Wouldn't be just the lamps. I have over 75 different rock related items to sell not counting rough and slabs.

Well, everyone has there own idea of sales. You can sell a few laps at a high price and get money or sell lots of laps at a cheaper price and make the same amount of money. Sounds like you want to get rid of the lamps.

Agree with Roy. Your lamps have real value AND perceived value. Clean them up and hang a nice informative price tag on them.

Well, you talked me in to it...set the price high and see how they fly. Can always come down...easier than going up.

Great idea ! I'm thinking , depending on your market and the breed of rock , maybe you could ask a little more . I'm in total agreement. The right tumbles, and it could be pushing $100.00. The oil lamps themselves are worth the $35.00 to the collector.
