royMixing business with pleasure can stain pleasure in a hurry. No surprise. Would not surprise me if you could pull off a pleasant business here though. In this day and age it only takes one PIA complainer to reap havoc though. Perhaps not worth taking a chance. as you know i have a hard time selling rocks to friends ! |

Why am I reminded of a scene from Animal House? I hope that no one took my previous post as being against Tommy or Tony or Roy or anyone else here running the site. All fine, outstanding members here, and Tommy has listed an impressive list of qualifications. Works for me - as I said. Opposition to a specific person was not my point and had nothing to do with my post. Ya'll want to play Santa and give someone a couple thousand dollar gift, with the potential to turn it into something much larger, have at it. May actually be a gift to ourselves if it maintains forum continuity. As Tela said, it doesn't have to be difficult. I'm just bringing up some relevant questions and considerations. I'm helpful that way!  We did go from Tony to Roy to Tommy in a quickness. Anyone next? Is the purpose of a group donation drive to "buy" all this for one person or to turn it over to a group to manage? Is this a here ya go, run with it deal or would those that contribute have a say or vote in matters? Is that important? Are there other issues that need to be discussed before members here donate thousands of dollars to buy something and just turn it over to someone? Like I said, heck of a gift. (roy)- if the group buys rth it would be owned by the people !like i said before enough adds would be sold to pay back the people that donated then from then on just enough to pay the operating cost !there would be a board of directors voted on by everyone here any and all changes would have to voted on by the people ect........ Not sure that the Animal House "Let's do it!!" approach is well thought out. carry on ... |

Back to "What is the Site Worth?" When I closed my sites I expected and got nothing for them It seems to me the value of RTH has three components: 1. Mark's labor, 2. the members, 3. the content. What have I missed? 1. Mark's labor. Started in 2003 - 14 years of organizing, growing, arranging, etc. Take time to examine his threads over the years. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/user/1

The Content. Fantastic! IMO the best tumbling information around + every aspect of rock hounding and metal smithing and jewelry making. I've wondered if the name should be broadened some way. Much of the material is back-slapping but we all need a little of that to keep going. So What is it Worth?  Does it need to be moved to a new site? The only advantage i can see is adding photos direct. Is it worth it? |

I think many of the 1,271 may be members that don't bother to sign in. Do the Guests (members that don't sign in) count each time they go to the site during the day? Meaning does one person that checks in here 15 times a day gets counted 15 times in the Guest tally? |

Do you have a different site or venue which is more current? my sales are on facebook i have my rock page there R&B ROCK SHOP there i have two main sites i sell on Cabs&Slabs Slab Depot and on Wild West Slabs my web page has not been reloaded since it got hacked the host company is crappy and my lack of computer skills has made that task tough i retained the domain name and let the other go i need to update things here but im in the process of changing my logo design but have not found someone to help me |

An individual from Russia posted porn on one of my sites. I deleted it. He posted more. I deleted it and his location. He posted more under another name. I deleted them and made the STUPID mistake of asking him to please desist. From then on he apparently took great joy in bombarding my site with 30-40 porn videos a day from university etc. sites all over the USA. My hosting company couldn't keep up with him and I closed it. |
