I'm guessing a grinding stone for sharpening knives and such. The clamp would secure it to a work bench.

I bought 3 dozen about 20 years ago. Still got about 15 left @shotgunner. They sold to Depot or Lowes long ago. It was/is a very small family biz. They sold 6-8-10 inch knives with that large machete sized handle. Made all kind of plant harvesting and division cutting tools out of them. That big handle provides lots of leverage and was ergonomically friendly. Soft blade was sharp with two strikes of the sharpener.
Knife from Barteaux. Great work knife, big handle/hilt, $2.50. soft steel like a meat cutter's knife:

"It seems they are closing their doors. Close out sales abound."
They had a little web site long ago. Sweet daughter was the company salesperson. Shame to hear they may be closing.

Thread to be followed shortly by captbob 's second trip to Zapata haul. Probably found a boat too. GOT to do a boat. Robert knows the rock bars as a long experienced fishing guide. Rock bars = good bass fishing/rock hounding. He is your best contact. Talked to him in detail. He has a friend that owns a boat ramp north of where we were. On his ranch. The shores of his ranch have vast rock bars. And the adjacent shore lines to his ranch. Need permission from this land owner. Hoping for high winds during lake rise and decent over next 7-9 months to rearrange rocks along shore.
