micellularWhat facet machine are you using? I have a very old machine with a 96 index wheel. I would like to get a new facet machine as I have quite a few Montana saphires. My old machine works but it isn't very accurate anymore. I have faceted a couple quartz gems with less than fabulous results and some cubic zirconias that are attractive but artificial. Your sapphire looks so brilliant, it makes me want to start faceting again. That's a beautiful gem. You should be very proud of your work. later Brent.

Pretty sweet, but the language you are talking is way over my head. You never fail to impress. x2 on this ... and, Michelle, that's really impressive. Great work!

Very nice indeed! Being a native Montanian, I love the Montana sapphires. Of course my favorite are the Yogo sapphires, but they are nearly impossible to acquire, raw or cut. There is no need to ever radiate the Yogos as they are naturally a wonderful blue.
Your level of skill is truly unbelieveable for your first true "gem". Keep up the great work, and be sure and share the finished results...in photos

Starguy, I'm cutting an early 70s model Ultratec v2, all analog. I hear you about the accuracy - my mast is a little misaligned which makes it a bear to get certain facets to meet. Quartz is actually fairly difficult for a beginner stone, and cubic zirconia can also be challenging because of its hardness and brittleness. I'd recommend sunstone, garnet, and beryl for relatively inexpensive and well-behaving beginner material. Sapphires can be a little tricky because of differential hardness, but they aren't too bad (and avoid plated 1200 laps because they make orange peel). Give it another shot! grizman, yeah, those Yogos are amazing. I've only seen a couple in person, and none were for sale.

Michelle micellular , if you can make it, I suggest you hit the Vista show next weekend. There are quite a few faceters in the group, with abundant supplies of rough and machine parts. Very reasonable!
I have been stocking up on facet rough for the last five years or so, after I picked up a used Lee Faceting machine at one of our club's silent auctions. Someday, I may even get around to using it. NO WAY will I get the hang of it anywhere near as quick as you! You are a faceting prodigy, my dear!
