Gorgeous rock chunk is courtesy of phil . I made the mead and aged it in a whiskey barrel. Two of my favorite things. I can't wait to get this rock into the saw and start slabbing it. It's gonna give me some killer slabs.

Two of my fav for sure.. Aging my stuff with white oak toasted in oven at350-425 at times alligator charred and then dropped into carboys. What's the abv on the mead 18 or so? Honey? Nice lace agate.

Nice!! I try to keep my ABV @ 13-14% unless it's something sweet. If residual sugar is 1.02 or above, I shoot for 16% and above, just to offset. This particular one is made with my favorite honey, Yaupon Holly. I've got about 8 different batches going right now though, including one traditional made with meadowfoam. It's already amazing so I can't wait to taste it in a few months.
My last big planned batch for this year is going to be a 6 gallon batch made with about 25 lbs of frozen figs. Probably going to use huajillo honey for it. It's light and mild and easy to get my hands on down here.
I see your location is up in Colorado. Have you had a chance to get your hands on some Fireweed honey?

Please show us the slabs once you get it cut? I bought that one way back when thinking it was gonna be one of those killer design rocks... I don't think you can get that rock with the black lines anymore...

On my stuff I want the alcohol base to maintain the strongest presence. 8 batches?? Sounds like me.. Stuff everywhere and rocks interspersed. We got fireweed grin but not what you were thinking.. hehehe Yeah Im done for the year unless I get foolish and make an apple and a skeeter pee wine. Selling plants, rounding up some rocks, learning things on here. It s relief when you get over for the year. Put out 20 cases of wine from fruit from my yard. Wine made, Black Cherry, Peach, plum, margarita one with lemon and lime juices and an artificial tequila flavor generally used more for neutral spirits. Rock on little sister

I don't think you can get that rock with the black lines anymore... I had it out for about an hour last night, turning it this way and that, deciding where my first cuts are gonna be. I'll be cutting it tomorrow night and hopefully will get some photos posted on Tuesday.

Yaupon honey has a spicy woody flavor. In this house, it's only second to Buckwheat honey on biscuits. It's probably my favorite strongly flavored honey for mead. I've got one I make every fall using it that has apple cider, cranberry juice, and nutmeg. I'll have to send you a bottle of it next time. I do use guajillo honey pretty regularly as well. My very first traditional was made using it. It's pretty cool to share multiple hobbies with people. Thanks for sharing!

Send me your recipe instead of a bottle... Teach a man to fish...... At times I have used an agave nectar. I like the big feel of a heavy red, port, even a Sangria. but like the sweet fruit wines I make a lot of. Ever try Skeeter pee? If you haven't, google the recipe and make 2 carboys of it. No aging and great stuff. You'll wish you had made 3.. grin.. good stuff. C

I only cut a couple of slices off of this tonight. The saw looked like I'd butchered a pig in it. There was a crazy amount of red dye/dirt running through the oil.

Crazy amount of stuff in the oil, and a crazy amount of stuff going on in those slabs, great pieces.

Cool thread. Nice crazy lace with a sidecar of mead.... love cutting the stuff, hate how badly it stains the oil. Always cut right before cleanout time.

Lots more red than my typical laces.. Got to love the diversity in rocks.. The slabs seem stable and solid. Nice !

Yeah, they are pretty solid. I slammed them down several times pretty hard and they didn't break/crack, so I think they should be good to cut.
