I had a friend build this for me at the time it was built to fit in a particular space as my shop was quite small. Now I wished it was bigger lol. Only thing I have a problem with are the barrel thingies that stop it. I like what @$hotgunner used on his. Just need to now what those are called. It's kind of hard to walk in a hardware store and say do you have any of those thingies. Need to shim up the end where they don't drift so far. I am changing all the belts out hopefully tomorrow and do a little maintenance and clean up. Thanks for looking. I will do my best to answer and questions. BeLinda

Nice build and some serious capacity . The thingies are called roller balls .

Thank you for the name of the thingies. It has done a great job for me. May have to adjust the brackets for roller balls. Seems more appropriate for the job, those little rollers on there now eat up my barrel end. Hence the plastic on the bottoms of the barrels.

Roller balls might do the same thing , some of them don't roll very free . Could mount roller skate wheels on the ends . At least they have real ball bearings .

ever think of removing the center set of rollers? run barrels with bottoms against each other so when they drift to the end the roller rides on the metal lid?

That is one cool set up Missy. Gotta love the capacity. Been thinking about rebuilding an old homebuilt but might build one like yours. Stop running my others. Crazy idea here... Has anyone tried magnets on the barrel ends and rollers? Glue magnets to em. Add more or stronger magnets as needed. The barrels are in motion so less force should be needed. Those cast pillow bearings are hella strong looking. The whole unit is built well. How big is the motor 3/4 horse 1,750 rpm's? Looks huge.. Heavy duty girl ! Thanks for showing it off. nice !!

It's 1/2 hp 1745 rpm continuous duty Smith and Jones motor. The bottom plate of the hinge says ROCKS. So its part of an old rocks of Texas. Now the upper part I don't know but will find out. The stand was built out of repurposed scrap lumber. The pillow blocks can be bought here I think www.surpluscenter.com/shop.axd/Search?keywords=pillow+blocksIt took a while to figure pulley sizes to slow it down. Don't ask me how fast it turns. I would have to go count. I am replacing belts on it tomorrow. I do them all at one time.

1/2 hp Perfect.. Doesn't overheat running under capacity. Just looks bigger. I have 40 or more motors around the greenhouse and will need to snitch a 1/2 horse some where. Was wondering if I should go to 3/4 but would be a waste of juice. That's got to be the neatest tumbler I have seen. Are the carrier rods underneath the barrels 1/2 inch or 5/8? Anyone have any idea of what a couple rings of old fan belt glued to the outside ends of the barrels would do to help tracking ? Will check out that addie for the bearings. You think that you have to go tat heavy? Bet you're in it for the no nonsense long term. A Texan is pretty sensible . Thank You Miss Belinda, C

Your bearing source was a lot cheaper than the ones I was looking at. Do like the oilers on them. Thanks again.

Thank You Miss Belinda, C I don't know for sure but I will be working on it tomorrow and can measure the rods. I have key ways on it. When I started they weren't drilled but they are now. I couldn't keep the pulleys tight. Amazon has cold rolled round rod Lol my theory on the size. Go big or go home. Built Texas tough

Will be switching to 1/9 HP this weekend. Will advise results.

Really gunner? Wont the motor be pulling pretty hard with the weight of 4 barrels of rock> Whats the size of the barrels?? 12-15 lbs? Belinda Don't see a startup capacitor on the motor but could be one. Wouldn't the motor take a wonking when you started it up and before it got to speed? If a smaller motor is durable enough for the long haul then would go smaller. Have read on other sites and from people who build their own that 1/2 hp would be the one. How long have you had your rig running gunner? A year or so. Save serious electricity from a 1/6 to a half horse. Liking this thread..

This is about people that want a tumbler to think about what they already have and think outside the box. Last tumble on 4 barrels was around 80 lbs. I like your new tumbler.
