Thanks for the articles, I'm surprised that Hong Kong got one site listed. I was always in the assumption that we had nothing here, as all and everything that was settled prior to about 15 thousand years is now underwater, in the flat-lands that are now part of the south China sea. That we actually have a site going back to 36 thousand years, comes as a surprise and will have to read up on in order to include next time I'm asked to do a tour. The location of the settlement is not too much of a surprise, as nearby a lake stretching from here all the way to present day Shangai had supposedly marked its southern shore.

On the note on being descendants: Chinese Mythology records emperors/half-gods as their first rulers and they belief to descend directly from them. But, only the sixth emperor has mongoloid facial features. Everyone before that, is always shown with facial features that we would today associate with Midle-Eastern.

Serendip/Ceylon/Sri Lanka is also one of the world's major precious gem sources. I call it a "Gembox," along with Burma (Myanmar), Madagascar, Brazil and a few other spots around the globe. It's world-famous for its wonderful sapphire but that's just one of many fine gem types found there. I've been selling fine Sri Lankan sapphires and spinels for years along with many other ot its wonderful gems including rare garnet colors, tourmalines, zircons, moonstones and others. Here's a list of "some" of the fine gems sourced from Serendip (there are many other rare ones): www.ngja.gov.lk/en/gemstones-found-in-sri-lanka

Yes, that's what "serendiptity" is derived from. I'm wracking my brain to remember where I recently saw a remarkable collection of Sri Lankan precious gems recovered from an ancient shipwreck bound for the Mediterranean I think. It was a renowned -- and dangerous -- trade route in ancient times.
It's almost as storied as the Golconda diamond mines in India which produced some of the world's largest and finest stones, several now in the British Crown Jewels and, like the Mogul, stolen from its original Indian owners. In the old "Sinbad the Sailor" story diamond miners were said to throw animal carcasses into the pits to recover the diamonds (a long story involving retrieving them from birds which fed on the carcasses). There's a bit of truth to it because diamonds love fat and grease. In some diamond mines they use "grease tables" when washing the gravels because diamonds stick to the grease while other stones don't. Then the grease is heated to release the diamonds for grading, etc. Women's diamond jewelry needs frequent cleaning because skin oils and cosmetic oils quickly dim their brilliance. Just a bit of carbon crystal trivia.

When I first got into grinding rocks I was wondering if I could recover the diamonds from the slurry using a grease table … I was looking for a positive outcome from a ill conceived idea… m stly Definition of serendipity

Doh! You are correct, sir! Glad someone was on their toes! Thank you! At least I'm old enough to know what an album was. Was never much of a Yes fan, nor the Police for that matter. My BIG concert in the 70's was Led Zeppelin as a 16 year old. Was also a big Journey fan way back when...before they became popular with the masses. Dave
