If that turns out to be a tooth from some critter I sure as heck wouldn't want the job of cleanin out it's cage !

I wouldn't try cleaning it in anything acidic until I knew for sure what it is. What area of the country was it found?

It is a fossil.... Tooth does come to mind,I have seen something familiar to this,not that long ago.....It might be a mastodon .... Get it cleaned up,delicatly and lets see the finished piece...
Sorry I'm behind on here,but we are packing up for Montana to rockhound and visit family...
