I got the impression from reading the OP that we are not talking about any healing properties of the rocks themselves, but rather something therapeutic in the searching for and working of rock. Almost as if this is a 'prescription' for some condition. Am I off base? I read it the other way. Perhaps you're right. In that case, disregard my answer...though I still feel the same way. Dave

I don't know either, aDave . It seems the thread has gone one direction, without correction or clarification from the author, so maybe I'm wrong, but it reads differently from my point of view.
"Collecting playing with working on or anything. Just curious
I may get to play cut polish and so, because of a medical issue."
Let me be clear, due to HIPAA laws, I am not looking for anyone to share medical diagnosis, if there is one. I just felt like the thread took a life of it's own, separate from the question posed. Wouldn't be the first time.

They use bentonite clay for bowel cleansing while fasting. 8 oz raw apple juice 1 rounded teaspoon bentonite 2 tablespoons grasshopper juice Shake and stir , then slug it down. Four times a day. I use bentonite for clearing wines after fermentation.,

Maybe I'll find some healing crystals that will heal me, IF different types of rock "cure" different ailments, I reckon I should either live to be around 200 - or forever. scary thought... Just so you don't lick one of the hanta virus agates.

Yes, effectively I might add. But I have been trained in such. Nothing for those with lack of knowledge to attempt on their own.

Trained by whom to do what?
I could see those heated rocks used in massages having some merit. Heat can have beneficial effects.

It's good for me to tumble rocks. Gives a feeling of continuity and positive progress, even if everything else is falling apart. I don't really believe in the metaphysical properties attributed to various crystals, but willing to keep an open mind. I mean, consider how quartz is used in watches... pretty cool! Who knows what else it could do? But mostly I just like rocks... because.

Trained by whom to do what? I could see those heated rocks used in massages having some merit. Heat can have beneficial effects. Certain rocks do have healing properties. Especially crystals. Certain rocks/crystals can also not be tolerated by some. Their energy is just too great. I received training from a Homeopathic Dr. who believed in the power of rocks. Those skills have helped many, including myself. Last year I was asked to make a necklace, specific to the needs of someone and also another for her Mom. After wearing the necklace and placing in on a specific area, her Mom's cancer is gone. She had resigned herself to death and stopped all other treatment. My friend who ordered her own necklace, very long to cover her abdomen, had her initial cancer tumour disappear. This was the daughter of the Mom. I have also used other crystals on myself and friends in pain. I will not go into specifics, but it does work. One just has to receive training on how to use them. A person has to be open to the potential. My Native background combined with my openness to alternative therapies helped a lot. I will not post here what crystals/rocks help with specific ailments. To do so would go against the oath I took after receiving my "degree" as being a healer. Anyone who is interested in learning more need to contact a local crystal/rock healer. Yes there are many naysayers. But it does work from my experience.

The human mind is a powerful thing - able to cure the body of lots of things, control pain, rebuild tissue. There's some evidence that the mind can affect the expression of your genome by turning genes off and on. I can get the articles if anyone wants. If it takes rocks to convince your mind to fix things who am I to say nay? The bottom line is you get relief. Reiki, rocks, faith healing, pharmaceuticals. Whatever it takes.

I got into lapidary because my wife was interested in the healing properties of rocks, crystals and minerals. She started with this book: Love is in the earth. She started buying rocks, slabs, minerals, crystals and cabochons on ebay and new age shows. She took a rock she wanted cut to a local lapidariest and he showed her how to cab. I thought I could learn to cab and I could make cabs instead of her buying them. I bought my star diamond cabbing machine, a trim saw and some other old style equipment from him. I wasn't happy with the results and bought a Genie. I later redid my star diamond from 2 to 5 wheels.

Rocks are used in medicine all the time. Look at antacids like Tums, which are calcium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate used as a buffer in medicine or sodium and potassium salts used to make IV solutions. Then there are the minerals used to make medications such as magnesium oxide to make Milk of Magnesia, phosphates used to make bisphosphonate drugs, aluminum based rocks to make some antacids, etc. And various minerals have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. As for the metaphysical properties this was addressed in this thread: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/75774/metaphysical-marketing?page=2And I commented on it here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/73557/mystical-meanings-crystals“People like to mock what they do not understand. Can crystals heal? Why not. Ever hear of the physics principle the piezoelectric effect? Same principle used to time quartz watches. Quartz exposed to pressure or an electrical field will create its own electricity with a frequency of 7.83hz, same as the body's primary frequency. The skin gives off electricity and so can stimulate the piezoelectric effect of quartz. Magnetic therapy is also considered quackery by some yet there is also a physics principle behind this also known as magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). In short the principle here is that a conductive fluid, in this case blood, going through a magnetic field will produce electricity again at a frequency of 7.83hz. The body is electric and it responds to electricity. It has been known for a long time that mild electricity applied to fractures speeds the healing process. And I used high voltage through a gas tube to grow back the end of my thumb when I cut it off in a table saw accident even though it is supposed to be impossible. There are even studies that have been done showing the power of prayer, which again is just another form of energy. Bottom line is that we do not know everything, which is why things are still being discovered. And just because we don't fully understand things this does not mean it is not real.”

Well I've used my medical issues to help rocks along. Does that count?
