are you clear coating or anything after? probably not wit the heat. do you use use ammonia or something similar to neutralize the acid after? I usually just let them sit out in the full sun and weather John. The rain and sun removes the acid. Often just let mother nature do the rusting. Full sun generating heat speeds rust. In either case I wire brush them with a cup type wire brush on a big angle grinder. No coatings. eventually the surface oxidizes out and the yellow powdery rusts stops being made. Surface turns dark bronze, final patina. So an incubation period, growing rust ha. Interesting evolution of your process. How you moving those big boys? Have a forklift with padded forks or straps so you don't mar the finish? Must weight almost a half ton.

Should you suddenly die (Heaven forbid), your wife is gonna be pissed as hell. just sayin'
The property is separated into 2 lots. She has no ownership rights to the 17 acres(my lot) and I do whatever the ---- I want to do over there. The separate lot was by design 33 years ago. A man needs a very nice dog house BEFORE entering matrimony. I have threatened a gate, she better behave. She better behave?? heheehehhe Yeah sure Jim.. Won't be a doghouse big enuff if she reads this..

Atlanta to Jakarta(instead of resortish Bali) only $700 fantastic5 ! Jakarta probably has facilities to ship rocks back. Jakarta IS the shipping point. Had many boxes come to the USA form there. Contained goods from all manner of islands down there. Muslim country. Go during Ramadan. They fast all day so are lethargic.... Party all night...

fantastic5 jamespAnn I'm sure we can ward off jungle rot and can bring black light to see scorpions better! Jim I could almost be offended at the "not the Ritz" and "secluded from fine ocean beaches" but... I'm not. I saw a sand bar and river ( that's what this country girl is used to), I've tent camped all my life (hence no Ritz) an I HAVE CRAPPED IN THE WOODS! I draw the line at wiping my butt with poisonous vines though!

coloradocliff, those things weigh 100 to 300. The boom lift on the tractor unstacks them 1 at a time, as they deliver nested. James flips them on edge and rolls them like a tire. Wife stands on other side of 300 pounders and makes lift easy. I can lift the 300 pounders by myself on good days except they slide away and then you slide away and then your mouth slams on the edge of the bowl when falling face first into it. I chipped my chin bone one time and never tried that again. Had it hit an inch higher I would have no teeth. So my wife is a counterweight lol. She don't read my stuff here so I am safe, too bad so sad. Nah nah nah poo poo. My wife the counterweight ha ha. They get wire brushed at fabrication, scuffs not an issue. Or too bad if they do have a scuff. I do get heavier ones for custom jobs. Must use tractor hydraulics in that case.

Gotta look at shipping. Rocks ? Boats ? Cool art stuff ? Never know what those countries have cheap. Make it a business trip. No, I am not catching any man swallowing snakes for less the $4. Muslims ? They leave me alone and I will leave them alone, hopefully.

go figure ... Abrams calls for removal of Confederate faces off Stone Mountainpolitics.blog.ajc.com/2017/08/15/abrams-calls-for-removal-of-confederate-faces-off-stone-mountain/Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called for the removal of the giant carving that depicts three Confederate war leaders on the face of state-owned Stone Mountain, saying it “remains a blight on our state and should be removed.”
“We must never celebrate those who defended slavery and tried to destroy the union,” Abrams said in a series of tweets posted early Tuesday, a response to the deadly violence sparked by white supremacist groups in Charlottesville, Va.
Removing the faces of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson would take a monster of a sandblaster and require a change in state law. The Georgia code has a clear mandate for the memorial, saying it should be “preserved and protected for all time as a tribute to the bravery and heroism of the citizens of this state who suffered and died in their cause.” etc.

I ask somewhat rhetorically. Nonetheless, crap like this (the article) pisses me off...seriously. Even though some want to obliterate history, the statues represent a historical aspect of our country that should always be remembered. Their existence doesn't state a right or wrong...just a blip in the history of our nation. There's an old quote somewhere about forgotten history being repeated. As a for instance, one of the interment camps for the Japanese (Manzanar) is a historical landmark in CA. When will that be destroyed by the snowflakes? So, statues are being destroyed now. What's next? Chapters in history books? Very dangerous times we live in nowadays. Thanks for riling me up captbob . Dave

Don't get riled up Dave. Don't pay any attention them Bob. Just vote the right people in. The wrath of O'bama has passed. Government institution in this part of the States has suffered a blow on this Confederate issue. A large part of the government is populated by these people. It will be a cold day before that carving gets removed.
They won a victory on the Confederate flags that the government are allowed to fly. And other government funded Confederate memorabilia and exhibitions. Government related, all of it. They got their way and landed a few victories. Now it's all about idol threats and shedding light on their small victories.
It's all about the needy attention starved hand out mentality. Goes along with liberal sexual and gender preferences. They march down the streets parading their beliefs and causes. SO WHAT ! March till you shoes wear out. One button on the TV changer takes care of 99% of them. Turn them off. Neglect them.
Plenty of rebel flags being flown. You want to boil their blood ? Fly the flag. They can't attack your Constitutional rights on that matter. Your rights as citizens never changed. Neither will Confederate Heritage.

Dave On the last page I had posted a pic of Stone Mountain, saying that James' coral pile dwarfs it. Surfing my news sites last night, I saw the Stone Mountain story above. Thought it was kinda timely. My posts don't always have rhyme nor reason! How long before the 'tards go after Washington and Jefferson? Demand removal of those memorials. Remove them from Mt. Rushmore. Rename everything named after them. the time draws nigh

The man has a thing for zippers, I'll say that. I do like the shirts and sweater carvings. Pretty impressive.
