Charoite -$10/# in big chunks. Nope, I passed thinking I'd get some "next year." Yup, remember that. I have a 13lb rectangle "cube" that I bought for $100. That's why I tumbled a bunch of it way back, it was less expensive and easy to get. ETA: found an old pic of the charoite, it's behind the 9" sodalite sphere and the 21" sodalite obelisk. Not sure I have another picture with that charoite, but yeah, just over 13lbs Funny thinking how many times I've changed out my display cases and better specimens kick out lesser ones. I passed on a slab (big regret) of high quality charoite that was around 12" x 15" and over an inch thick. Had to be over 10 pounds, don't recall exactly, and I could have picked it up for less than 200 bucks. Still dream about that one as I like to collect huge thick slabs. Only one I've ever seen. Another specimen piece I let slip by me was a rutile on hematite - like this stuff (Google pic) Thing was well over 8" long and just drop dead stunning. It was around $1,500 which was probably more than the rent where I was living back then and I just couldn't swing it that month. Have never seen a similar piece. Most available now are tiny and pretty expensive. It would easily be a 5k+ piece today, if you could even find one.

My biggest rock regrets are that I never got to see Led Zeppelin in concert before Bonham died ... and Lynyrd Skynyrd before Ronnie died - or Pink Floyd in their prime. There are times I seriously wish I had a time machine. I wish I could go back to 1977 and explain to this 13 year old stoner that the Day on the Green concerts in Oakland featuring Skynyrd or Zeppelin were not to be missed under any circumstances... Oh well. Hah! I actually went to that Zeppelin concert in 1977...lived in Pleasanton at the time. It was the first concert I ever went to (age 16), and I was absolutely amazed at the dope being peddled in the line while we were waiting to get in. Went with some friends and neighbors, and the drugs were not our thing. Great show and one heck of an eye-opening experience. Dave

So I went into a shop to show them some of my work to see if they wanted to put some on consignment. They said we don't do consignment, but they bought everything I brought in to show them. Later in the week my wife asked where a certain ring I had made was. I told her I sold it to XYZ shop. She teared up and told me she was wearing it when our daughter was born. DUH Can't fix that. Vic

My biggest regret was cutting up the big piece or petrified palm that I found in my creek. I did like the slabsm but when I look at photo's of the big chunk I truly miss it.

Oh well. My first concert was Led Zeppelin at Kezar Stadium, San Francisco 1973. Houses of the Holy tour. I left at the "end", not knowing about encores. I heard 2 more songs on the way to the car. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, Feb 1974. I remember about 27 guys playing guitars onstage during Freebird. How many guitars does a band need? On the bill were Manfred Mann & Uriah Heep. Maybe another band too. I saw Pink Floyd at the Cow Palace in May(?) of 1975. They did Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety & Shine on You Crazy Diamond before the album Wish You Were Here came out. Lynn

Ah so many rock regrets. Of course I have a few. One of the biggest regrets is not buying Lakers and Bots when I first saw them and they were reasonably priced because they weren't "popular" yet.

Well now, Diane drocknut, iff'n you had looked into your crystal ball, you'd have known what the future holds. You'd have been at the head of the line to buy them up and make them popular! Ah, so many opportunities like that in this life that we miss out on...

Ah yes, unfortunately my crystal ball was out for cleaning then and now it's missing, but may be in one of the boxes of rocks in my mom storage area. I don't think it ever worked right anyways.

The only regret I have is that I'm not a multi-millionaire that could buy every rock I liked.

I regret buying a lot of rough off of eBay. Even the reputable sellers....selling lower quality (without saying so in the listing) or not stating the fractures. Won some Opal rough months ago (Idaho?) and it was full of fractures. I just had to have it based on the wet photos. Boy was I disappointed.
Paid $25/lb for Labradorite and was severely disappointed as well.
Bought some rainbow obsidian from the claim owner for less than $5/lb. ordered close to 100lbs I think after I received my intitial box. I've since learned that I HATE working obsidian and still have slabs and uncut rough. The colors are just phenomenal and mind blowing, but I hate working it...
Jan of last year I was looking on CL and found someone selling rough by the lot or if cherry-picked by the pound. I relieved the guy of the whole lot. Weighed my vehicle down by 4" where it was loaded. Great score, lots to choose from now, but get overwhelmed because it's so much!
