Hi Kim, nice shoes. Anyway, I'm not much of a rock IDer. I know quite a few flints and jaspers, but there are so many and a lot of them mock one another. With out the location it came from makes it tough to positive ID them. I will take a wild guess on a couple of them though if that's OK. 1st pic - ? got me? 2nd pic - looks like a type of granite hardstone 3rd pic - Sandstone, we have a type here in Ohio that has flecks of mica in it that also sparkle gold just like that one. 4th pic - I want to say Calcite crystals. I've seen pieces like that before with the califlower look and I believe that is what it was. 5th pic - This sure looks like a piece of some type of flint, it looks badly freeze fractured, but I would bet $ on this one. 6th pic - part of a geode's guts? Last pic - Most likely lava rock or possibly even a piece of industrial slag. Well, that is my best effort, take it for what it is Kim. An uneducated guess, later, Don

Kim, I'm a novice Id'er but I do recognize a couple of those.
2nd: I believe Don is right. That is granite. Probably a form of biotite granite. I've seen it all over where I live here in Indiana.
3rd: Don nailed it again. That looks like sandstone, also seen alot around here. One way to be sure, is try breaking off a small piece. Sandstone is fairly easy to break and has a tendency to come off in layers. It also has a sandpapery feel about it.
1st: I checked my field guide and I'm not sure but that may be a type of Gneiss.
I'm clueless on the others. Hope this helps.

i am making some progress getting most of the rocks out from underground and have cleaned this batch up. i have 35 indoors now on the kitchen counter. i'm thinking i'll have some gravel delivered to use as ground cover so they don't sink into the ground again. i have at least 50 pulled up to the top of the bed that are still dirty and big but not anything real special i don't think. of course until you clean them you really don't know. i found 2 large toads while digging with my hands and learned that toads scream when you snatch them out of the ground. but be assured i outscreamed them ;D. please tell me if you know what these are - where they come from. 5"x7" really want to tumble this one - but what is it? 5"x5.5" with some screw like markings in it 6"x4.5" dark on one side lighter on the other with shells throughout 6"x3.5" orangish; geodes 4"x3" & 2.75"x2.5" going to get some more pics and will post them. hope y'all can tell me what some of these are. kim

It would be interesting to talk to the people who owned the house before you got it, maybe the people before that, someone was a rock nut. Anyway you must feel like you are in heaven

unless i do a seance (sp?) i'm not going to be talking to this couple. the man passed away many yrs ago and she passed away about 6 yrs ago. they never had any children so she left everything to our church and i bought the property from the church. she had to have bought or picked up these rocks when they travelled. she apparently had a passion for rocks and flowers. she and i would have gotten along great.

Be very carefull and respectfull of these rocks, I hope that the lady approves of what you are doing. You may go out to rock garden and find a couple of the rocks mysteriously moved

my child and i dug up 2 wheelbarrow loads today. i had people coming by to see what we got out. i don't think they will fit back in . i even dug up 2 bird yard ornaments that she must have had in the rock garden at some point in her life. imagine my surprise when i pulled up a concrete bird ;D. if i didn't get them all i'm awful close. i have washed them all off with the garden hose and they are in piles in the yard. i bet she could tell you what each one was and where it came from.... kim

The rock you have with green in it just might be jade or Malachite. The picture of the rock that looks like it has tubes fused could very possibly be a chunk of very old coral. As the creatures that make coral die their bases form hard rock. Yes the piece that is in the forground of the picture with the ruler is a piece of glass. I have seen something similar to that at the rock shop in Wichita.

When I went to Wichita this weekend, I found a speciman just like the one you have in picture number 6 and the box that held the speciman was labeled Youngite.

I just saw the outer portion of the Youngite and didn't see any that were broke or cut open, the second one from the outside looks just like that.
