There is a lot less wiggle room completing a nice looking faceted stone as opposed to a cabochon. Kudos for a great looking stone.

I don’t know anything about faceting, but that looks really good. Lots of fun geometry there.

Great job on your first stone! Your yield will get better as you gain experience.

Very nice, Dave. I had no doubt you would excel at this. You seem to be meticulous by nature. Never seen such an organized and neat tumbling operation. Well, maybe TheRock, but that's because he's never actually used his equipment. Look forward to seeing how you run with this.

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to play around with a few things I learned online to see if I can improve the pictures any!

I took this sitting on a white tile. This one was taken thru my 10x loupe. It shows the scratches and chipped corners much better!

Yay! You did great! I've never faceted, but I appreciate the exacting work that goes into it. You have a beautiful stone- love the golden color.

Beautiful work on that stone. My first and only faceted stone is still on the dop, getting smaller and smaller every time I try.
Great photos too! Love how all the points meet! I know just how hard that is! Kodos!

That is an amazing stone for first without help. Meets look awesome, polish seems top notch.
I'm really happy for you. A rising star in the faceting world. Congratulations!

Thanks, I was quite happy with the meets and final polish. The edges kept wanting to chip, but I read some other messages where people had the same issue with this material. I'll try cutting it a little less aggressively for the rough shaping. I also had one edge of a facet that didn't want to fully polish, but I decided to move on and not get too fussy!

Just saw this thread, been out of town. Good job for your first stone. You'll soon get a feel for roughing preforms. Some materials are inclined to chip on facet edges. I've had luck by reversing lap direction when I run into one of those. As for a facet that doesn't want to polish in one area, that's what cheaters are for. You'll soon get the hang of that too. Photographing faceted gems is a real learning experience. It's all about light and controlling it for the effect you want. It only took me about 10 years to really feel confident with the task but I'm a slow learner when it comes to photography. I'm sure you'll progress much faster.

Great job.
I don't like Christinite much, there are a lot better synthetics. That design comes up really well with a bit of CZ or synthetic Spinel.
Tom Herbst books are great for teaching faceting, light hearted and well written so you don't even realise you are reading a text book.
