this is one of the ones i got out of the rockbed awhile back and nobody ever said what they thought it was. i took out my frustration at the painter on this rock, some turretilla and some green tree agate. i feel better and i have my next couple loads ready too ;D. can you identify it now that i've busted it up or is it still an unknown? before the hammer after the hammer kim

Hello,
I had some material that looked very similar to this, it was called Christmas Tree Agate. I have since cut and sold everything that I had made up. It's hard to say ... but it looks very similar.
Enjoy, John

What ever it is, it sure is purdy Kim. Can't wait to see it polished. X-mas tree agate sounds good to me John, it fits! Don

no i don't have any free barrels yet. but i do have something going into polish in just a bit - i'm letting it dry after the borax cleaning hoping it will be easier to get the plastic pellets off.
i would have had it rolling in polish earlier but i was frantic to finish mowing as more rain is setting in. dang bees ran me off from one section - i hate those bees - we've poisoned them, tore the side of the building off and took out their honeycomb, had someone take them away, but the smell is there and more always come. they are vicious when it's hot and attack. they've gotten some other folks but not me yet - i always have my eye on them. they start filling the air and i'm off to another section. and of course, as always, i have to tear up something on at least one mower - this week i knocked the whole tire off the rim. i think i have sufficiently reduced these 2 mowers to yard ornaments ;D. my b'day is coming up and i forewarned my hubby today that i'm getting a new mower delivered for my b'day - i do so love to mow - am i easily amused or what?

For the plastic pellets get a container, I use a 2 1/2 gallon Schwan ice cream bucket, dump everything in the bucket then add water. The plastic pellets will float and you can skim them off the top and put in another container that has a paper towel in it to absorb the excess water. Once you have the ones on top removed swirl around your rocks to release any of the pellets that are under or between rocks and skim those off. Once your pellets are dry you can put them in a plastic bag and label it the stage they were used in so you can use them again. This has worked well for me in all the stages I do. Tami

I do the same Tami. Call me strange but right before I move the rocks around to get the rest of the pellets to float I have to yell "RELEASE THE PELLETS!" ;D It's kinda become a ritual! Hey Kim, I got about 3 acres that have to be mowed once a week. I'd be more than happy to let you come over and feed that mowing addiction!! Otter

That sure looks like your rock, but doesn't look very much like my parrot wing. Of course, that doesn't mean a thing since every rock is different!
I'm glad somebody found some info about the parrot wing, because I haven't been able to find any info about it searching using "parrot wing". From the eBay description, looks like it is of the Malachite family.
You got a heck of a deal on yours - free from the rock bed! This stuff cost $15.00 a pound at the local rock shop! The only reason I bought mine was because it was on sale for 1/2 price.
Can't wait to see your finished. Can't wait to see mine finished!

llana this tells a bit about it and the hardness (hope mine is upward toward 7 and not on that low end). i can find pics where people cab and polish it but not any pics of it tumbled. www.acstones.com/gemofmonth/2002/gemofmonth.9.02.htmlwhen i look at the pics of cabs and slabs it can vary greatly in appearance. kim

i know i said i was starting the turretilla next but this got the better of me and so it's rolling in 60/90. i contemplated starting it at 120/220 but stratched around on it with that green tree agate and when it didn't scratch i went on with the 60/90. i took almost all of it in the 6#'er. i have a couple handfuls that i can use as the load goes down. i hope i don't ruin it but at least it was free ;D.
