Here is some of the Yellow and Red Jasper I found in Bagdad. There is also some goofy stuff in the mix I found while I was out there too, but mostly the Yellow and Red. I sent out some of this stuff to a few of you that visit this site, and hope you do well with it. (Since I have about 80 lbs. left to get rid of) The 'Ruby Jasper' I picked up North of 'Cave Creek' is still in the 120/220, and this particular batch needed to go 3 weeks in 60/90. I used Titanium Oxide, which has quickly become my polish of choice, on harder stones. Before... After... -Later

Soooo pretty ;D Great job! The best part is you picked it out yourself. Is jasper softer than agate? My moss and plume agate have been in coarse for 15 days with very little change.

Banjo, I have some of that red and yellow jasper going now. In fact, I think I have some going in each stage. Hope mine turn out as nice as yours! Now I am REALLY impatient for them to get finished!
I think that's Bagdad, Arizona unless Banjo jumped over to Iraq on his way to or from Scotland.

Right you are, llanago, and I'm sorry if I pop anybodys bubble but these come from 'Bagdad' Arizona, not 'Baghdad' in Iraq. It's about a 3 hour drive from my place but Jasper abounds. Check out this field of 'Yellow and Red Jasper'.

Banjo, I'd sure rather be in Bagdad, Arizona than Bagdad, Iraq! Now, if I could just get you to dig up one of those cacti and send it to me! LOL! Can't remember the name of them- Otillo or something like? - that but they are sure pretty when they bloom. They are all over West Texas. I just have never had enough room left to cart one home after all the other cacti I dug up and rocks I collected. Last time I was in Az., if I would have gotten pulled over and had my trunk searched, I would have gone to jail for sure! It was loaded with cacti I had dug up - including a couple of small Sequero (sp ?). Get in BIG trouble if ya' get caught digging up one of those!! I love living dangerously! ;D

wishing i was there now! KD

KD, I smuggle cactus and rocks everywhere I go.
On the way home from West Texas the last time I went (in '95), I got stopped by the Border Patrol and a DPS officer. My T-bird was loaded down - looked like one of those low-riders. They asked if they could look in my trunk. I popped it open for them and the DPS guy said "You're from Medina, Texas?" I said yes and he gave me this weird look and said "Don't ya'll have enough rocks and cactus in Medina without you bringing more home?" I had to laugh. They weren't laughing, but sure had a big grin on their faces.
It's not against the law here to dig up cactus, except in Big Bend National Park or get caught on private property without permission.

Thats what I do, John. I keep two 15# Thumblers Model 'B' running 24/7. (I'm gonna try Aluminum Zirconium rather than 60/90, in the other Model 'B' this week.) Then I have a 12#er for 120/220 1- 6#er for 500 1- 6#er for ASAI 1- 6#er for 1000 a 4.5 for for Titanium 2 3#ers for Cerium and Tin 3 1.5's for Cerium, Aluminun, and Tin Oxide. That pretty much keeps me busy.

They look really good. I wouldn't mind having some of that, I don't think I will be getting to Arizona in several years.

That is a chunk of Jasper I found that seems to have a lot of layering to it. I'll just call it "Banded Jasper", since I only found one piece, I couldn't be real certain what it is, and I wasn't too sure what it would look like polished.

Wow there sure are a lot of pretty rocks in Arizona. I'm a rock skip and a jump away in Vegas, Are there any good rocks runs up my way? Fairly new to this, but I love to hike, and the kids loves rocks.

I'd say there are plenty of rocks out your way. The first place to start looking is a library or rock shop for some maps of the sites that rock hounds frequent in your area. I got a cool collection of petrified wood that came from an area north of you. You've just got to find a good source and do research. If I come across any Nevada info I'll send it your way.
