jeannie and I went out to get our first behemoth. This started a couple weeks ago. We dug it out (6 hour day) but got defeated trying to get it into the Tacoma. I did some jiggerin' and figgerin' and added another come along to the tool set. Went back today (yay! It's still there!) and spent a couple hours hoistin', draggin' and cussin' (not much cussing!) and soon she was ours. Jeannie said it's a she! Interesting Jasper material, you can call it Lavic. It's from another region 15 miles north east but likely the same formation. Enjoy! It's big! 5 gallon bucket for scale catmandewe and orrum will be happy to see this!

Wowza! What are your plans for it? Door stop? I have chronic anemia and this type of stone has tons of iron. So, I thought I'd grind a bit every day and drink it in my protein shake. Hopefully it's enough to stave off the anemia...... */s Probably be a yard rock. May polish one face and add my house address number's......

That would easily be the best house number sign I've ever seen, nice piece, worth the effort.

That would easily be the best house number sign I've ever seen, nice piece, worth the effort. Thanks Larry! We appreciate it. We have a blast working together. jeannie and I have found a true symbiosis. We have complimentary hobbies in lapidary and rockhounding. In this case, she read me like a book. When I was rock bottom (come alongs stressing) Jeannie offered solid encouragement. I recognised that if she lifted the ramps, the come alongs would work easier. SO WE DID. after we sorted that out, it was minutes before it was in the truck.

Score!! Glad you got it... Thanks Mike! Woot! Have to give my gurl jeannie a shout out. I could not have done it without her. Sincerely. This rock would not be ours except for the team effort.

NRG - Sweet piece! If it's cabbing quality, you have a lifetime supply. I see some cool quartz veins running through the strata. Lynn

Shades of Tony there! Way to defeat the rock. I too think it would make a great house number sign.

Yes, the idea was yours. I claim zero originality!

Very cool rock and I admire the effort it took. I think sandblasting and airbrushing the address numbers would be great for that one. Chuck

Way to go! I don't know what I'm more impressed with, the stone, or that you and jeannie got it done without arguing. Even after 11 years, Paul and I butt heads in times that those.

Those are cool and long lasting. But mine is reflective!
Numbers have since been redone, they didn't stick well to the lepidolite. Now they are on aluminum plates that are glued on to the rock.

That's a nice one, Scott. Good job getting it home. I have never hauled one quite that big home, but I did bring some pretty big ones home in my Jeep. I rolled them up a 2x12. I'm really lucky I never dropped one on myself. Here's my biggest rock. I didn't ride in the Jeep. The address was done by the local grave marker company. It was done while I was at work, so I didn't see the process. But he ground out a flat spot and then sandblasted the address. It was surprisingly affordable. I can't remember the exact price, but I want to say between $150 and $250, thirteen years ago. This picture is ten years old, so the landscaping has grown up a lot. Here is is with a small child for scale. P1010004 by jugglerguy, on Flickr

I think I'm going to get the truck weighed before and after That is a grand idea! I don't know if yours is bigger or not (not the address one, but the one we lifted into the truck with a hoist), but is sure is a lot purdier. I don't think I would even attempt to lift that in with just two large people, probably wouldn't even try it with four or five. So easy for things to go south. Good job!

Jean, we didn't "lift" it. We dragged it up two 2*12 planks. The come alongs anchored into the truck bed to a D ring. I almost coulda done it alone, but there were a few times when I absolutely needed help.
This stone was at the maximum possible for my setup. We won't try this size again.
