Found the out come of the first multi-hole melt. very nice: Yes, indeed, very nice! James, is that flat, or does it have some 3-dimensionality to it? Hard to believe you are just now starting on multiple hole pours, after all this time. What other wonders have you not yet thought of?

jamesp HVAC can be very humbling at times and leave you in shock. Like when I got tickled with 480 through my little screwdriver while on a ladder. I grabbed the ladder as I jumped back, the whole ladder came off the building, then landed back on I was lucky and fast that day. This made me laugh today. One of the dudes on my furnace forum... Glad he is ok. He is a good tech and has been for a long time.

A production operation I worked at had a giant gas furnace with one of those inspection window/access doors. Looked like a flame thrower inside when the main gas valve opens. I think I know what happened to otto knave. Is this the same situation as lighting a gas grill after it has overly filled with propane and poofs a giant flame and singes your facial hair ?

You nailed it jamesp.... he opened the access door and HC met O2. Even got his eyebrows, he’s lucky. Maybe had to change his pants as well but he didn’t say that. Ah gas grill, propane heavy..... lays in grill waiting for air/wind to stir it, then BOOM, bratwurst flying like 1dave’s anvil.

They have them mastered. Or they will make a plate and then 'slump' or heat soften it to form over a vase mold to make say a handkerchief vase. Yes this plate looks to have some little mounds at each pour but it can be remelted to flatten it no problem. Plates and vases aren't my bailiwick though, just jewelry glass mostly by brick molding for sawing into slabs. 3-dim stuff. Multi-holed pots.

A buddy and I fabricated some fine gas burner covers for steel bowl fire pits. He was going to market them. Had them perfected and ready for market till we tried to get product liability insurance.... Liabilities for outdoor gas appliances are large, far reaching and worst of all long lasting. All due to the behavior of propane you mentioned. We were stunned at the underwriter's logic. Yes, 'x' amount of people WILL get seriously injured every year when using outdoor gas appliances. To cover medical costs they simply price the coverage accordingly. Best leave the gas appliances to large companies that can afford the coverage.

jamesp What would you recommend for 120v electric kiln? Look up Paragon. Gotta be a glass kiln with basic computer for heat schedule. Their small 110 units. Inside is about 9x9x9 inches. You can use 4-5 shelves - 8x8 ceramic tiles fits perfect. BUY IT USED. Craigs list/EBAY/Facebook market Place, etc. Got mine for $400, it was like brand new. Wife loves that unit. She melt blobs glass blower scraps in it 40 to 50 at a time. Makes me shape and tumble them. I make 6x6x2 inch bricks in it, so it is versatile.

Found the out come of the first multi-hole melt. very nice: This is too cool for school. A wall hanger for sure Robin. Trying to figure out if those are made of translucent or opaque glass. Red-orange-yellow translucent look opaque when poured thick. I have so much extra transparent glass that needs a purpose.

Does the translucent glass look opaque when liquid?
I think it would be a cool experiment for you to do to find out.

Most glass colors come with a description of the after fused color hummingbirdstones. No info on the glass I have. Unfortunately many colors are not the same after molten or when hot. It is a slow learning process to know how of say your stock of each of 20 colors is going to behave during and after fused. That goes for flow character, crack potential, fuse polish ability, bubbling and probably a bunch of other properties. This glass is super friendly to cast. But it is actually dull in color when compared to art glass on the market now. It was named Hot Melt but people in this country called it Hot Mass. It was not liked.

Corning would be the know all of glass braat. I thought they were only into industrial and consumer glass products. Looking at their museum and glossary they have a handle on all forms. That is a comprehensive glossary. Thanks. Bookmarked.

For jewelry purposes, it is just fine. They may not not it, but it suits your purposes. A person buying a piece of jewelry made of your "Hot Mass" would not know the difference one way or the other.

James, are you saying hot "mass" or hot "mess"? Hot mess would make more sense. It's a little hard to understand you sometimes with that suthen' aczent, lol.

I married one, so I can kind of figure it out. I still have to ask Vince every once in a while what he's saying.

Found the out come of the first multi-hole melt. very nice: Now you just need to make the multi hole mold slowly spin and you’ll have your own glass Spirograph.
