For the Flintnappers in the house, I found a video on U-Tube that was interesting. While excavating old Indian sites the Archeologists have been finding short pieces of antler with use wear on one end and little to no wear on the other, as you would find on a punch of sorts. They really had no idea of how they were used. They also find antlers with drilled holes . This guy seems to have figured it all out where the Archies couldn't.
Go to the U-TUBE channel :Emory Caudill: Video called : Pivot & fixed insert press process- thinning large Flint Biface.
Video leaves a bit to be desired as to quality but the process is fairly eye opening if you are into knapping. There is another U-Tuber , channel called Knap Yucatan that uses the short punch method but his technique is awkward to say the least. The short Punch method works but , his holding method sucks at best !
Ol Emory looks to have it all figured out !

Thanks, I'll check out the video. Knap Yucatan is a fellow who was on a couple flint knapping groups but has since moved to facebook. I'll agree that his technique is awkward and add that his newsgroup presentations lacked in detail. Rick B

Thanks for posting the video, that's a bit beyond my expertise. The one thing he mentioned in the other video was almost elimanating the chances of an end snap of your project. For those of you that don't Knapp it means you re-invented the jack Knife, you folded it, right in half ! After an hour or so of careful deliberate work , here you are with a two piece knife that WAS almost finished #@&^^%**)(!!!*. It always seems to happen when you are working with a pricey piece of stone.
DAMN !
