Ancestry just came out with an improved list of geographical ethnicity regions. I was just notified that 23andMe has done something similar. As for law enforcement having access to my DNA: The feds have had mine since the military mandated it in the 80s.

During a psoriasis+ichthyosis flair-up, I probably leave enough pieces of myself on the bed sheets to build a whole new Grumpy Bill without needing to grow anything in a petri dish. Just put the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. <laughing>

I'm reading this book right now -- fascinating! Research in this field is moving so rapidly the author says the book will be obsolete before one finishes reading it. There is a vast amount of research to be conpleted before firm conclusions about human origins can be validated. No one has locked eyes with a Denisovan for tens of thousands of years. These mysterious humans left behind few bones, unlike their close Neanderthal relatives, on their way to extinction. All the remains confirmed to be Denisovan — part of a pinkie finger, half a jawbone, some teeth — could rest comfortably in a shoe box.
Despite their dearth of physical remains, the Denisovans left an indelible mark on our own species’ evolution. Denisovans split from our ancestors some 700,000 years ago, but when modern humans and Denisovans encountered each other hundreds of thousands of years later, they mated; Denisovan DNA exists in human populations today. Some of their genes, recent research indicates, can give modern humans an immune system boost.

I’m reading this book on Big History Agustin is really fine thinker and writer Although he’s bit to positive for my taste Yep creativity put us at the top of the food chain That's good And the author is trying to put a mankind on On an honorable level That good to Cause it to easy & truthful To see all as just one long climb out of the mud He mentions how by banging rocks together The ancients were putting their selves at great risk-‘ out on the tundra- from the larger clawed beasts That rock hammering is noisy Hey dude could please hurry up with that flake There something growling over there But not only did we get blade technology Rock drums too! Anyway the author really digs into the deep past And plenty about tool making I liked his analysis of the Big Gods too And that front cover is righteous! www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/agustin-fuentes/the-creative-spark/Check it out Mohs

My father said we were Irish. My mother said we were mostly mutt/mongrel.
That’s good enough for me.
I think they were both right.

Within the last six weeks I went from not caring about DNA to it changing my life. I had always known there was the possibility that I had a daughter from an affair back in 1976, luckily had mentioned this to my current wife. The father gave his three daughters 23andme kits as presents, two of the daughters are by his second marriage. The results came back to the one that he was not her father, she confronted her mother and she named me! She immediately reached out to me through Facebook, at 75 I now have a daughter and an 11 year old granddaughter. My wife and I have totally embraced them as part of our family, they live in NJ and will be visiting us in the hopefully near future. She asked if I would do a 23andme to confirm this, she doesn't trust her mother, I've sent in the kit. We have a lot of similarities, physically she does look like me, more than her mother, that's unfortunate. Her "dad" has stuck by her, he had divorced her mom in 1977 but did provide for her. One of the funny sides to my testing is that my late mother was like Elizabeth Warren, "I have American Indian blood" We'll see in a week or two, I doubt it. LOL She never scammed anyone with it or tried to open a casino.

I started researching my genealogy in 1955, had most of my family lines back to the 1600's, and saved my information as PAF files. but the PAF program was discontinued around 2005 and my new computer couldn't run the old program. Major Bummer and I quit. Over the years I have tested several new programs but although they located my old PAF files, they couldn't handle them. I will not re-type in all that old data!Last night I gave the free version of Roots Magic 7 a try. rootsmagic.com/RootsMagic/It found ALL of my old PAF files, even those I used for imaginary characters for some books I wrote, and SHAZAM! I was back in business.

Looks like it also supports importing GEDCOM files, so I might have to try that. The pay-for version also lets you put everything on a USB stick or Flash card, so that is also intriguing. Thanks for that.
