Well, something I didn't get around to doing was going through the slabs and selecting the smaller or less desirable slabs and mailing them to Tommy to be auctioned off in support of the forum finances. Not that we want to auction off junk, but nothing in the box should be junk in the first place. Two stones, one bird...? uhh...yeah, I'd rather have two stones, don't much care for tumbling birds.

Birds in the tumbler would be messy
I thought of taken out one box and shipping it to you or to Tommy, but there are some really nice slabs in here to choose from though and I only feel its fair everyone gets a chance this round to pick from them
Especially that really juicy piece of Indian Blanket.
Looking at the list, I think we have more cabbers than tumblers this round?

Good point, Ali, that's only fair. Well, I was intimidated about removing slabs from the last box as I really don't know much about them. I suppose at the conclusion of this round, I'll post pictures of all the slabs and put it to a vote!

Maybe everyone on the list should say now which type of materials they are interested in. Cabbing, tumbling or both. Last round I received the box from zarguy . Really appreciated some specimen type pieces in there. I could use tumbling, cabbing or specimen pieces.

That would help for future reference. I should have asked back at sign-up. Hindsight...

Another thought for people to weigh in on. Switching back to specific boxes, such as tumbling only or cabbing only. Or even a round for those who collect specimens. Items worthy of display as is or some refinement, such as face polish.

Ali and I were just discussing dividing the boxes like you said, it's a good idea, but she pointed out just doing a rough box. One box full of rough, no slabs. We figured that most cabbers would also be able to slab. This would save a ton of room, eliminate most worry about broken pieces and still be a great source of diverse material for petty much everyone currently involved. It also wouldn't require two boxes that would need seperate organization, which is a big plus considering I've been AWOL for so much of this one (Sorry again everybody!).

I have plenty of tumbling material to put in but since I don't cab yet I wouldn't feel right taking slabs that someone else could put to better use. I'm super-excited to be participating, but since it's my first time I would welcome any suggestions of what people following me could use.

I like having the slab/tumble option, since I do not have a saw. Agree that most cabbers do have at least a trim saw, many a slab saw.

It was my intention to mail out box yesterday, but family drama caused me to be on the phone all day with parents and a drunk brother. Who let me just say is a peach to deal with. He is in the hospital now on a 5150
Sorry everyone, I'm cranky, lack of sleep, and am going to recharge my soul a bit with some time with horses and rocks. Seize the day!

Rocks and horses. For those who do not understand you, this could sound dangerous.
Sorry for all the drama you had to deal with.

Rocks and horses. For those who do not understand you, this could sound dangerous. Sorry for all the drama you had to deal with. kidding! The horses were 1st. You cant be unfocused around them so they grounded and settled me. Got my mind back to peace Then I went out to finish up the fire agates. Which is a tad stressful in it's own way It is what it is and I cant control it The good news is I sawed up some new stuff to put in the box I'm gonna make it all fit somehow!

Some questions for folks who follow me:
On my last trip I stumbled around and picked up some nice obsidian with lots of sheen showing. Small pieces but most are too big to tumble as-is, especially in small barrels. Some are big enough to slice for cabs.
1. Does this interest anyone? 2. For those interested, do you have the capability to cut pieces in half or so to get manageable tumble material? 3. I also have a fair amount of self-collected, really nice red/yellow jasper run through with agate veins. Again, most is too big to be "standard" tumble material. (Some has noticeable fractures so could be broken up fairly easily.) Any interest there?
(I'll try to get some photos up in the next couple days.)

Since I'm following you, I'll answer- at least for myself. Of course obsidian interests me! I can cut some manageable pieces and would be glad to cut some for those who follow me if needed. The same goes for the jasper.

What I added (I did take out a few pieces of tumble to make it fit) plus I shoved a piece of sunstone in there and a bag with Amber pieces Mix of slabs and tumbles There is beautiful pieces of wood, moss agate, angelwing, Montana, queens, kyanite in quartz, horse canyon, plasma agate, bahia, morrocan, Madagascar and I forget what else Then the picture of what I took out I'll need ID on a couple of them
