I put up a post with information on clarifying amber recently. It is heated in oil to clarify.

Have you tested with a hot pin? What did it smell like when sanding?

I have a bad cold so cant smell a darn thing I'll ask my daughter tonight what she thinks it smells like Haven't done a hot pin yet I was reading the articles James posted and will try the acetone test as well Anything else I should try?

The sanding may release some smells that you can use for identification as to plastic or amber. It sure looks like amber to me.

Just the red hot pin. I hope it smells piney.

It's far better to be pleased with a confirmation than spend a bunch of time on faked materials. Fingers crossed for you! Huggz again!

If I was to polish all this (which isnt all that easy) then find out its fake, I would not be happy

If the amber were fake (plastic) it would already look polished, not like it is covered with sand on the outside.

If the amber were fake (plastic) it would already look polished, not like it is covered with sand on the outside. The fake plastic shit I bought looked very similar to this. Sand included. Hot pin test of it yielded an sulfurous, acrid, nose burning chemical smell. Not the almost sweet piney odor given by copal or Amber. Fakers gotta fake
