I pre-fire my flux and then place the pallions around where I need them. this keeps them from moving around when the flux starts to evaporate. use a titanium pic to pick up and move around the pallions. Thanks for the comment, but could you explain what you mean by "pre-fire my flux"?

I just hit it with the torch for a few seconds to burn off most of the liquid elements in it so it settles down into a glaze. it will bubble, foam up and then settle. At that point I take off the heat, place my pallions and then heat to solder the joins.

Just ordered syringe of medium solder. $5.77 plus shipping. Maybe the prices have come down. I admit I haven't checked in years. Even back then, the copper paste cost was prohibitive.

I bought some silver solder in powder form and make up my own paste at the time I need. I’ve been informed solder paste ages quickly. It doesn’t justify its price in my book.
Learning to use solder pallions can be a bit of a journey but it’s s valuable skill. Home made paste works too for small jobs where a pal lion is often flooding the joint. Keep tidy and there’s significantly less tidying up to do.
