It is hard to speculate without visual reference. I have found some of my emeralds sort of like what you refer to. If you do not have a camera, there is a sheen to beryl that is like no other. If you can, try to send a photo, or one to WilliamC. He has done real well with mine. You can also send one to me. I cannot put it out there, but I might be able to identify.

Thanks. There's a digital camera which I'm not too great at using but I'd better learn how, and if I can I'll put it up here! When I looked again I realized I was exaggerating about the size, it's more like 5/8 to 3/4 inches long. Very yellowish/greenish.

Sorry I forgot to update this thread...I have been looking through the rough more, and while doing so, I started seeing the same shade of yellow/green interspersed through the matrix -- sometimes milky colored but in that range. Having observed that, I feel fairly safe that it must be low grade emerald or beryl (I'm not sure where the color cutoff would be.) I just hadn't seen that color before. It is an impressive crystal within a bag of rocks, and interesting in its own right, whatever it is.
