The leaf structure of a Victoria water lily leaf was used as a structural model for the grandiose Crystal Palace in 1851 England. Possible fractals ? I experienced these lilies on a safari trip to the Amazon. Do not wade in water where they have been growing, they leave behind a mass of wicked thorns that don't rot away. "The lily, with ribbed undersurface and leaves veining "like transverse girders and supports", was Paxton's inspiration for The Crystal Palace, a building four times the size of St. Peter's in Rome.[14]" Wikipedia
