I sell these whole sometimes at events and crack them open for people. My cousin, an avid rock collector, got the best one in the lot -- beautiful purple crystals 1/2 inch plus.

The tube is actually a piece of a broken binocular, which unfortunately I've lost since I took that set of pictures. I have some more to post that I took last night but I had no internet at the time. Thanks for that info.......If you don't mind, what type of primary lens are you using.......and I have an old pair of binoculars that aren't worth repairing, what did you do to utilize those lenses as a "tube".........kinda understand the lighting and camera settings aspects, just curious about the lens focal points and application process............Thanks..!

Some taken with current camera -- a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300. Others taken with previous camera which was very similar, the DMC-FZ150. (The 300 is water-resistant, shock resistant, has touch-screen focus and does a bunch of stuff I still haven't figured out.)
I'll have to see on my home computer what properties were recorded for the pictures.
Hopefully I can post some more pics tonight that I took through the sophisticated methods of holding an LED flashlight in one hand and camera in the other, braced against the table... would have been easier if I remembered where my short tripod was. I don't remember how I set up the binocular thing, but I'm sure it wasn't very sophisticated... I think I used natural sunlight for that one. Probably just pointed the camera down the scope and moved things until it seemed right. I have a 2x magnifier filter -- somewhere! -- that I'm hoping to find eventually and capture better pics with. The FZ300 is threaded to take standard filters.

Thank you for the feedback......wow, for an advanced "point & shoot" those macro's are really good......especially considering (if) you used some type of "tube" application........given only a 12.5mp with an f/2.8 capability telephoto, no wonder that Panasonic is rated so high for under $450.00 retail.......very sweet indeed.
Had I not wanted to utilize my older Nikon lenses, I had considered an advanced P&S........you certainly have figured out some of the finer points of that model.......a little photography background probably helped too.........Really nice work.......thanks again for the photo's and a little background info...!
