Beautiful! Definitely not a calm waterfall. That one looks like it could beat the hell out of you if you fell in.

Great looking area, after the next rain you might want to check the area you just worked for Indian artifacts. You may have purchased an old Indian camp !

This creek originates a rather close distance upstream. No idea where so much water came. There must be some big ground springs suggesting cold and clean water loaded with tons of dissolved oxygen by it's many falls. I walked over the bold creek feeding it marked 'spring' on this map. Gotta go see this whopper ground spring. Falls marked. My lot is to right of the church. Falls maybe a 1/4 mile thru woods. Many ground springs in this area including one on my lot supplying fine drinking water. Many more falls on Canada Creek along the north side of Abe Mountain. Maybe 25 small creeks and springs in the various draws not shown on this map.

Just go where it is flat and is not a floodplain = about 2% of the land and most of it gets plowed. Rarely are they found on the slopes or ridges in these hills. Foot traffic is strenuous once you depart from flat bottomland.

jamesp I suspect that the descendants of the original Carpetbaggers in that area are still plying the trade. A family I met 12 miles(45 minutes by mountain roads) to the west were known carpetbaggers Henry. This family has been aggressive wheeler dealers to this day as they own lots of businesses around Blue Ridge Georgia. Respectable but tough businessman. Another family(xxxx) I met close to them are bitter enemies with them to this day because of north vs south type violence inflicted many generations back go figure. You'd think both devote Christians watching them at Baptist church but not the case away from church lol. The Long's lived on a mountain next to the Stanley's. Long Mountain/Stanley Mountain as marked on maps to this day ! The Stanley's and the Long's married into each other starting generations ago. Long's originated from the north, Stanley's the south. The Stanley's were criticized by some of the southern families for commingling with the Long's lol. Apparently the Long's had hung 2 members of the xxxx family about 5 generations back. My friend's father had bought lands from the Long's years ago. Recently he hired a farm hand from family xxxx. The xxxx farm hand often has dinner with us when I visit my friend's cabin. Lol, you should here him talk crap about the Long's. We just shut up and listen to him in amazement. Guessing my friend's Dad hired him not just for help but to hear the full history. Hatfield and McCoy all over again.

Hey Jim.I have my Granpa's old whiskey still that he used back in the 1920's.Jugs too. Would fit well up there.Enjoy the new surroundings. The whole still !!?? That's amazing snuffy. Were you aware of his reputation as a shiner ? Had to be easy to know whom is making moonshine back in the old days in these hills. Follow the corn. Had to be grown in those small valleys close by. Finding the stills is another story. Easy to hide a 747 in those hills excepting modern satellite. Moonshine runners learned to modify cars to run faster than the sheriff's. I believe Nascar was started by the moonshiners with their clever mechanical skills.

My home suffers being in the "Last Mile". Those being serviced at the end of an internet finger. Common in rural areas. "Last mile Internet refers to the Internet connection leading into your home or office. This is the final stretch of an Internet connection. The last mile." Difficult to fix this problem Jean.

Wonder what that portends for you new digs? Judging from your maps, looks like you may have the same problem there. Or do you use your phone when you are remote like that?

We find Relics on benches next to the Creeks and higher ground close by up on the Mississippi River in Wisconsin, it looked like you were working a point near the Creek !

Go figure, Obama had a work program in this part of the mountains. State of the art fiber optic service installed up there Jean. Blazing fast. WILL BE getting computer stuff done up there instead of populous Atlanta go figure.

Lucky dog! Did Obama set it up so it is subsidized forever, too?

He made it for his personal use.Interesting story: My Mom and Dad were neighbors on adjoining farms. One day my Dad took a shortcut through the woods to see her,and came upon Granpa cooking away.

In this case (for personal gain) I hope so. Am sick and tired of ATT's service. I am getting quotes on 1500 feet of RG-11 coaxial cable to string down to my home since ATT is not interested in replacing the 32 year old existing cable. There is 9 power poles carrying the line to the house. By gosh I will climb every pole and string the wire on to the existing cable myself if I have to. One internet provider said they would run a cable for $15,000. 1500 feet of RG-11 costs about $500. I'll rent a boom truck and run it myself grrrr
