I think you’re too far south. Drummond Island, at the far north end of Lake Superior and into Canada is where the most puddingstones are found. You don’t have to look in the water, they can be found in farm fields or anywhere. Around Cheyboygan is good from what I hear.

LOL Thanks for following up with good info. Nothing is worse than going on a collecting trip and visiting the wrong spot. Kudos!

Sorry I was late seeing this. I was in the Upper Peninsula for the holiday with limited cell service. Pudding stone, Gowganda Tillite and Petoskey stones can be found that far south but they are scarce. Here is a link showing what I found at a park on Lake Huron that is actually south of Lakeport last spring. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/82549/first-spring-rock-hounding-tripBut as Jugglerguy mentioned Pudding stones get much easier to find the further north you go. Here are a few I found near my cabin on Drummond Island 2 days ago. The smallest one is over 100 pounds. None of these came home with me yet but I GPS marked them and the first one will end up in my yard. Chuck

Those are some bigguns, Chuck. Are you wrapping a rope around them, throwing it over your shoulder, and dragging them out?

Those are some bigguns, Chuck. Are you wrapping a rope around them, throwing it over your shoulder, and dragging them out? Took a good 20 minutes just to pry that one out of the ground. Just a small piece showing at the surface and the rest was buried in saturated ground. Had that suction effect holding it in. No nearby quad access and pretty gnarly terrain. If it were easy it would already be in my yard. Years ago I probably would have drug it through the woods by hand with a tow strap but I am a little smarter now (and less fit).

We understand completely lol.....our biggest stone weights in at 347lbs. a beautiful conglomerate and yes it took a old cub cadet with a scoop to get it out! By the way it came from mystery creek campground in michigan paid $50 for her loaded in the truck out of the woods with camper in tow!!! IT IS PRICELESS, ITS HER BABY!!!!
