However, I'm guilty as well. I have a handful of Fairburns that I won't part with, won't do anything with. Each one is unique and when I find them I know that no one else has seen that particular stone. Ever. So I get it. And by the way, that is one good looking rock! When I first started working with rocks, I couldn't let any of the finished products go if I liked them, others I was happy to release back to the wild or give to others. I just have too many rocks now and move them all out after being finished, but I do have to cuddle them for a while...sometimes a month or two  I don't have any slabs that I'm attached to, but I do have a handful of really great slabs that I just can't decide how to cut because choosing one design would destroy the possibility of the other, so they sit in limbo. |

I try very hard to not get attached to either cabs or slabs but I do have ONE cab and ONE slab that I will not sell - or cut up in the case of the slab. The cab is a very unique Montana agate and the slab is a large piece of uber-rare Pope Valley jasper. I think that with the volume of material you must go through to sell the amount of cabs you have it is okay to keep one of each, but just one . All kidding aside, your restraint is admirable as I am pretty sure you are able to get your hands on some very premium materials. Of course, I imagine you could get into trouble pretty quickly if you started to hang onto everything. Al |

Years ago while wandering through a remote place in Wyoming my wife picked up a small jade slick and handed it to me. It fits just right in the palm of my hand and I find it irresistible. It has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Al OK but only since it's your thread and I won't feel like I'm hi-jacking it The Pope Creek jasper slab is huge 9" x 8" or somewhere thereabouts. The thing with this slab is the pattern changes all across the slab and the beauty is in the totality. If I cut it up I'd just have a bunch of green blah and a couple of sweet spots that may or may not even look good cabbed.    I don't have a recent photo of the Montana agate cab I pulled this off my old Flickr account. It was I think my second Montana cab I ever did and I fell in love with the scene. Reminds me of being in a serene desert with a billion stars all around.  |

If something were etched or darkened in the setting cup, it would show through the stone. So you could have a cactus in the clear part. Just an idea. |

Tommy. A friend had a Montana agate that resembled reeds at a river edge. Top part was clear. He drew and cut a bird just taking flight out of the top part of the backplate. From the front, you could see the bird taking flight from the reeds. Wow! You could do something similar with your desert piece.
