I try to get wild caught. DH brought home a fish I hadn't tried, yet. Swai. I did some research... Great that you looked into that. Farmed fish in the markets here used to be mainly from North America, but that stopped being the case about 15 years or so ago. Blame goes to special interests who got the tax code changed to exempt agricultural exports from income tax (in part or totally, depending on how they structure it). Probably was sold as helping out the farmers and reducing trade deficits - what could go wrong? Well, it resulted in a bizarre supply chain in which much of the best of what American farmers, aquaculturists, etc. harvest here gets shipped off overseas. So what about demand in the US? Well, imports are used to fill that big new gap, usually from countries with low standards for pesticides and other contaminants - and guess what, that increases the trade deficits, though producers - particularly big corporate harvesters - got a big tax break. Affects fruits and vegetables, too - weird that so many of the apples in the stores here in the NW - a big apple-producing region - come from other places (including China, where heavy use of pesticides has killed off their bees, leading to costly substitute pollination methods). Ah, I begin to rant - but labels need to be read these days, and good that you looked into that before putting it on the table.

It comes from- get this- Mekong river fish farms in Vietnam. Ah, the rivers of Southeast Asia . . . aren’t the fish already wrapped in plastic when they pull ‘em out?

As in "oh my God, what did I do?!" kinda interesting.
Have fun. And make sure to park the getaway/goaway car behind the house, not out front!

How they get the blood coming out of its wherever. To replicate the taste of beef, Impossible Foods said it scanned plants for molecules that would mimic a protein in meat that contains iron and makes blood red. It eventually settled on something called soy leghemoglobin, found in the root of soy plants. . To make it, Impossible inserts synthetic versions of sections of soy DNA into yeast so the yeast produce soy leghemoglobin during fermentation.
“No plant is actually touched in the process of us making this protein,” said Smita Shankar, a biochemist with Impossible Foods.

At some drive-throughs, McDonald’s has tested technology that can recognize license-plate numbers, allowing the company to tailor a list of suggested purchases to a customer’s previous orders, as long as the person agrees to sign away the data.
“You just grow to expect that in other parts of your life. Why should it be different when you’re ordering at McDonald’s?” said Daniel Henry, the chain’s chief information officer. “We don’t think food should be any different than what you buy on Amazon.”

Try the burger without the dressings, lettuce tomato, onions etc, than tell me how it tastes... The condiments hide the taste of the patties... I will stick to a good burger "Beef" with all the fixings...

Well, everyone got me curious, just had to try an impossible Whopper ! It tasted kinda like Beef but not exactly, if I hadn't known what it was, I would probably have thought that the condiments had a slight problem. My wife's cat always joins me at the computer table and I usually give him a small piece of what ever meat I am eating. He sniffed the Burger bit , then pawed it some, then , jumped onto the floor and gave me a look that clearly said ( NOPE ) !

Spaniel will probably buy it, had a Springer spaniel that would eat ANYTHING ! Took him trout fishing with me and he ate a very (old) dead fish laying on the bank , had most of it down before I saw what was going on. He always rode in the back seat standing with his head looking over my shoulder.
He had such bad breath it was almost terminal !
